I'm confused as to say "FINALLY!" or "NOOOOOO!!!"....

Their LOTR game was pretty fail, but they did sort of recover it with their last game, which I can't remember the name of.

Oh well, for now its only a rumor, and if it's true I'll find out in 5 hours.

Bummer -- even though it's a rumor at the moment, Kotaku is right 98% of the time. I can't say I'm surprised after LotR: Conquest and Mercenaries 2. LotR was terrible, and Mercs 2 wasn't nearly as good as the first. It's too bad, I loved Clone Wars, the SWBF series, the first two Destroy All Humans games and Mercenaries 1.

The Saboteur was looking pretty awesome.
I feel bad for all the 200 people getting laid off.

Hm... how should I put this?

Bingo. The quality of Pandemic's work (well, from what I've seen, I've never played The Clone Wars) has usually been questionable. I'm surprised that it didn't happen sooner.

Then again, SWBF is still fun.

R.I.P. Pandemic.

Ooof, Their not the only ones... I can't see Maxis being shut down or having major cutbacks, but you never know... I can't imagine what the laid off workers must be going through. 200 people is a lot of people to lay off...

Ouch. I feel bad. Yes, Pandemic made some pretty bad games recently, but Battlefront and the Clone Wars was still fun. RIP.

Well, at least this confirms they wont be the ones working on SWBF3. But other than that, LotR wasn't that great but I liked the Clone Wars and the Battlefront series (mainly BF2) and they are still fun games even though I don't have the Clone Wars anymore.

RIP Pandemic!

Clearly you haven't played the first Mercenaries, nor Destroy All Humans! 1 and 2.

Eh, I can't really say I was surprised. Other than the swbf series, they didn't really make any break-out games. They were never known for superb work by reputation anyway.

Does anyone know what is happening to the ZeroEngine? Or what consequences this might have for swbf2 modding?

I hate having to keep telling people this but Battlefront III is already out, BFIII is Elite Squadron.

I doubt this will effect modding for SWBF. I can't see a good argument EA will have to put legal action that will prevent us from modding the Battle Front games. If they did, then I would be shocked.

Uh technically no it isn't, they just took the concept art and everything we pretty much saw in that alpha video and put it in their game.

You didn't quite catch my drift. I was pondering what, if anything, we might be able to get out of this.

Well what would we be able to gain?

OH, that. No, we wouldn't get anything. If we did, then I'ed be really shocked.

Well I don't know, I was just thinking out loud. Employees who are dismissed from a closing game developing company tend to be a good information source -- ie, they are no longer bound by their contracts and they might be more willing to talk to us if they're no longer preoccupied with their own work. I don't know, I'm just throwing stuff out there.

In at least one case I know of, a modding community secured the source to the game engine after the original developer went bankrupt. I'm not proposing these things specifically are likely to happen. But something might come out of it. It's an open ended idea, just fill in the blanks yourselves.

Sad, but expected. Their work hadn't been up to snuff as of late.

Despite what some may think Pandemic didn't make a spectacular game with either games in the BF series. They were buggy and glitchy. But it they were fun for the first few weeks but the mod tools were what made it worth while. I would have thrown my copy of BF2 in the closet years ago if it weren't for the mod tools. As it stand BF2 is still one of my favorite games.

Requiescat in pace, Pandemic. You didn't make a great game. You made us a game to make great.

You realize that the Elite Squadron was developed right alongside Free Radical's SWBF3, right? When the next-gen version got dumped it just got retitled.

Hey, does this mean we can buy out the Zero Engine now? :P
