ok, i had a major virus on my old computer a while back, so i copied BF2_ModTools onto a portable hard disk, wiped clean the computer, and brought back the ModTools

now, when i want to create a new map, i go to Start => Programs => LucasArts => Star Wars Battlefront 2...but the Mod Tools folder is no longer there

so basically, is there any way to start a new map if you can't access the Mod Tools from the program list?

Certainly--just open up My Computer (there should be an icon for it on your desktop) and go to the folder where you saved the modtools (usually C:/BF2_Modtools)

Then head over to the data folder, then the _BUILD folder, and run Modtools VisualMunge.exe from in there to build a new map.
