I read the first book. It was big, it was in english (I prefer english over my own native language), it was about vampires and it wasn't expensive, how could I not buy it? The story is ok I guess, I cannot say it is the best book I have ever read, but I don't hate it either. I do think the sparkling vampires thing was kinda... well... you know.

I wasn't aware that there were so many sequels, not until the books became a pop culture phenomena and the movie came out. I didn't watch the movie (movies based on books suck) nor did I read the sequels and to be honest, I lost interest in this series as soon as it became popular, (the way I see it, over one million people can never be right) so yeah, I do not know what to think of it.

Seeing as my knowledge of this series goes as far as the first book, I'm not what you would call a "die-hard" fan of Twilight but I'm not one of the somewhat numerous haters.

The movie was pretty good, actually. No where near as good as the book, but i've seen it around four times and am still not sick of it.

If you enjoyed the first book at all, I personally would reccomend reading the sequals. They are really good... I've read all four. But the movie was actually quite good in my point of view... I had never even heard of Twilight before my youth pastor mentioned it, so I watched the movie, then read the books. I am a die hard fan of Twilight!

Never read Twilight, and probably never will. My mom read it and said it was ok, meaning I'll give it an average mark like Nihillo did. I remember someone in Barnes and Noble telling us that she had to drag herself through the fourth book (that person said "why can't that girl rescue herself"). That, and the die-hards/fan-boys and fan-girls kind of keep me away from reading it.

It's considered a chick book by most of the people I know, so I haven't read them.

Same.

Nor do I plan on reading them. Ever.

Same here.
My brother (edward_cullen) is obsessed with them, but I personally am sick of the movie.

Hmm...yeah, my opinion is basically "kill it with fire".

As you can tell by my avatar, my opinion swings more Elric > Cullen.

The book ruined my gamer tag. Everyone now thinks that my Legend of Zelda reference means that I'm a fan of sparkling vampires. I can keep the tag on sites like GameToast, where my avatar kinda does the explination, but on actual games, where it's jsut the name, the die-hard fans are like "OMG U LIEK IT TOO?!?!?" and the haters are "Dude, you suck for liking that book." So, I made the decision to change my tag, which I can't do here at the Toast.

Actually, you can.

From the site rules:

NOOO!! NOT TWILIGHT! BURN IT WITH FIRE!
Sorry, had to get that out of my system.

*Stupid question here* But what's with the sparkling vampires? I know nothing about the movie or books, but that's the #1 thing that is mentioned when I hear someone talking about it...

Stephanie Meyer decided to change the vampire myth by removing most of their vulnerabilities, such as death by sunlight, but she needed a reason to keep them away from the sunlight I guess, so... [sarcasm]why not make them sparkle under the light? It makes sense, right?[/sarcasm] Being a sparkling sparkle person.. thing... is not very subtle, and they don't want to blow their cover, so they moved to a cloudy town and stayed indoors during the sunny days.

Why that happens? I don't know. There are several allusions to them being like marble and stones, but I really don't know enough to give you a plausible explanation.

I see... that's stupid. I have to say I like the whole myths involving vampires, but Twilight... *ick*

Opinion from someone who's actually read the books:

Trash...but well-written, often entertaining trash.

Pros:
Written well, good description, like Stepehnie Myer's style, did good job of recreating vampire/werewolf thing even tho its getting old (c'mon guys you want logic with vampires? ). Prologue thing was good for first one, became pretty lame after that. Volturi were nicely menacing. At times corny but fun.

Cons:
Bella and Edward have no personalities, romance between them artificial and for some reason compared to Wuthering Heights' characters (WTH has Stephenie Myer read Wuthering Heights). Bella gets repetitive and dull fast, Edward demi-god but still dull. Other vampire characters stereotypical and dull too, getting rid of human characters after book 1 is annoying. After book 1, gets more and more like it was written for 14 yr old girls (well it was....)
Insane Twilight Fans (most of the reason its got a bad name). Outweigh all the other cons 10 to 1. Saw to 12-14yr olds the other day with "Team Edward" shirts. *Shudder*
