is it done with camera angles or what?
its an addon to the hud. it shows an extra weapon icon, but larger and in different position, and shows it at the opposite time it shows the normal weapon icons. the scope texture for the weapons is totally transparent.
Updated this skin. Again.
Decided I wanted my character to have blue and grey instead of red and green.
The kama would also get blue trim, but it doesn't show in mshviewer.

Superb skin! I will have to say I like the new finish on the armor. Loving the shade of blue.

You get my vote for discovery of the year.
EDIT:
Thanks to your explanation, I already have iron sights working in my mod. (Now I just have to adjust icon placement and make it look like I didn't steal your idea

)

Please do! I think I'm safe in saying that any modder would give an arm and a leg to know how you did that. Nice work though, on the hud and the skin.

great skin
agreed, furthermore it is better for gameplay/looking, cause in stock BF2 we have scopes for weapons which don“t have any scope. so please tell us

OMG, this is awesome!
Maybe you should replace the weapon model, so it looks even better?

That is beyond awesome. Nice bit of trickery with the HUD.

Thanks for the comments.
I don't think I'll change the models, unless there's already one out that I like better, but just don't know about yet.

You, good sir, are fantastic. Always blowing me away with what can be done with the game engine. Could this method be used to have different scopes for the different sniper rifle zooms?

I don't think so. Unless there is an event for changing zoom or something. I didn't find one when I searched though.

Just thought of something - I realize it isn't the norm, but would the ironsights work properly in 3rd person with this method? I would guess not, but you do know more about your methods than I do.
To clarify, I know you zoom normally in 3rd person in the video. My question is if your method could be used in any way to get ironsights with a 3rd person zoom as well as a first person.

Off-topic: You can adjust the third person zoom camera coordinates so that it is postioned to simulate peering across over and parallel to a unit's weapon.

That would make the mesh go transparent, no?

Oh yeah...
Nevermind.

All you'd need to do is make the blaster use a scope in third person, like the sniper rifle. My iron-sights don't work specifically with first person, but with the scope.

Ah! In that case your method is very similar to those people that were trying to munge a custom scope mesh that didn't have a UV layout which mirrored the texture four times. In their case they were unable to overwrite the stock scope object msh. Do you simply use a new mesh (technically adding another scope), or did you find some way to override it?

I was one of those that tried it before, and I did try it again, but I don't think swbf2 uses a msh for the scope, so I couldn't override one.
The HUD places the weapon icons, and that's basically what the iron-sights are, weapon icons that the HUD shows at a different condition than the regular weapon icons. These conditions aren't specific to 1st person zooming. They are also triggered on death, but I set up a second set of conditions to prevent that. Any weapon that uses first person zoom, whether from first or third person can use iron-sights.

Any hints about that part? The "iron sight" also triggered on unit changing for me. I tried to prevent it with different disables like disabling it when the reticule is disabled, but I couldn't figure out how to set it up.
I know that it's possible to set up a new scope (I think that there are stock unused asymmetrical meshes), but I am not sure how to make the new scope so every first person zoom isn't the same and I don't think that it's possible to remove the blur effect from the stock scope.
