Need Help Uninstalling SWBF2 (Error Message)

Lately my computer has been running low on disk space, so I decided to remove some big games. SWBF2 is one of my biggest games which I don't really play any more so I decided to remove it. I have been continuously modding it since I got it so I checked out the addons folder and deleted everything inside just to be safe. (Except for the v1.33 unofficial patch which can uninstall itself.) So then I go to uninstall the game and in the first second of the remove screen I get a big error message and I am asked if I would like to see the details, report it, or continue. I continued and restarted my computer and tried again a few times. Still no luck. I think it might have to do with a rep and repshell file I replaced and did not remove. I have the backup but could not find the repshell file(s) to replace.

Any thoughts/suggestions? I really need help!

The error message it displays right away is:

"An error (-5004 : 0x8007007e) has occurred while running the setup.

Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications.
If the error still occurs, please contact your vendor: LucasArts."

If you want to get rid of BF2, just delete the entire game folder and then remove it from your recycle bin, right?

yeah just delete it from the c drive, then search for it and delete any other related files that come up.

You forgot the registry entries.

Technically, you don't have to. I just felt like mentioning it because simply deleting the file folders is not fully uninstalling the game. If the entries stay, it won't cause any real harm.

To get to the registry, use the run command, and type in regedit. There should be a Lucasarts folder under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. From there it should be self explanatory, but keep in mind that editing the registry is "live" (no saves, no undo function), and that doing the wrong thing could cripple your system, so take great care in anything you do there.

If I delete the folders, but not the registries will I be able to install/uninstall the game in the future?

It might cause some problems because the swbf2 installer will probably think it's still installed.

So it would be better to delete the registries too?

As long as you delete the correct entries, yes.

Correct as in all SWBF2 entries? Or certain entries within the SWBF2 file?

If you don't know what entries to delete, just use a registry cleaner/fixer program (like this one) to do it for you after you delete all the SWBF2 files/folders.

You can just delete whatever's in the SWBF2 directory. (Nothing there is vital to your system.) I wouldn't use a registry cleaning app to do it, though. I've read that they tend to not know which keys to keep or get rid of, plus they tend to be bundled with malware. I went through a few of those things, and just..blech. No benefit whatsoever.

Will the same process work for removing my SWBF1 which also has trouble installing?

@MercuryNoodles: Odd, it's like the complete opposite for me and I've been using registry cleaners for five years now. I guess results will vary from person to person. :P

@Leo the Larg: Yes to just about every program/application including SWBF1.

Should I delete the registry folder that says SWBF1/SWBF2 or just delete the subfolder "1.0"?
