Moving Forward..

Alright. So, as my current map (being Naboo: Diversion) nears finish (and public release...), I would like to begin work on the next in the series, Naboo: Recapture (may change name). It takes place in Theed as the Royal Naboo Security Force attempts to recapture.

This is going to be a tough map for me (I've never done any city type maps, no less in the all so conforment, not to mention well-known, environment of Naboo...giving me little freedom), meaning that I'm going to put all the more effort into it to ensure it comes out nicely.

So, I am asking the community for help. Anything is accepted, but theres a few specific things I'm looking for. The first and easiest being layout.
  • Layout: I need maps, drawlings, pictures, anything. I need to know what the city of Theed looks like, where buildings are, how the streets are done, anything like that. I know I can watch the movie, and trust me I will. My point being I need things to help me get a feel of simply how the city is designed.
Now, second on my list is something a bit more subjective. I need anyone with any experience doing maps of this sort (cities/villages/close quarters, but at the same time ranged and open. I will say that snipers will play a role) of map to give me a hand with it. All I'm asking is to talk on msn or something about how you plan it out, how you go through the process of making a map.

The reason I ask for this is simple: Making a open map on this engine is almost entirely opposite to making a closed map. An open map is vast, and the primary tool will be your terrain, models will simply add feeling and environment. Quite in contrast to this, a closed map is primarily built with models, and the terrain will add little more than ground, and perhaps on occasion an important feature (a slight incline or the likes).

With an open map, you can invision what you want, then make it with your terrain editor. With a closed map, you have a set selection of specifically tailored models to make use of, making it all the more difficult to build. Moreover, with a uniform environment like Theed, where all the buildings have the same color, shape, and design, I have little freedom to use models that would otherwise serve as possible additives.

Anyhow, to recap what I'm asking after all my talking, if anyone has some advice on making city maps, or some architectural/layout images of Theed, please feel free to contact me.

my msn/email is [email protected]

Thanks in advance,

Parts
