He's not leaving, he's just not going to make maps anymore. I can kinda understand why he doesn't want to anymore, do to all the hard work it takes to make a good map, especially with a dozen angry fans eagerly waiting for the release.

Really, if you ask me, it's better to finally mention the map just as you're putting on the finishing touches, so you won't have to deal with all that pressure of finishing the map on time... but that's just me...
