What does ScanninRange and TransmitRange do when placed in a unit's ODF file?

Correct, to elaborate,
Scanning range is how far you can see enemies on the mini map.
Transmiting range is how far away your enemies can see you, I think.

Interesting... and if you set the value of transmitrange to "0.0", then you would not show up on another unit's minimap?

If that is the case, then how do you keep a unit from appearing on a minimap?

put scanningrange to 0, that should do it. but only you won't be able to see anyone on the minimap, everyone else will be able to see like normal. Those who have the minimap mod will still be able to see all units on the minimap at all times.
