Hi all. I'm new to this site but have hung around it for a long time watching the development of the mods and maps. I have made attemtps at modding and mapping SWBF2 but each time I come to the same error. Whenever I make a new world in the visual munge it works fine. I can map it and add objects. But whenever I try to play BF 2 (because i'm bored tired, and want to do something else) The came crashes at the first loading screen and theres no error message. Whenever I try to play it again The same crash happens EVERY TIME. Even reinstalling doesn't work. I would really like to make some maps so any help on this would be really appreciated.

You do munge your maps after you add new objects, right

Oh, yeah. Did I mention that I am really new to modding? I didn't know you had to munge after adding objects. The error also happens when I move around the mission.lvl to add a mod.

I'm not sure about the mission .lvl, but if your putting it in your mod map, its because you hav'nt munged it
Make sure you munge from your Data_***/_BUILD folder (*** = you 3 letter map ID)

You say it crashes at the first loading screen? Then double check to make sure that the Path to where Visual Munge is (# equals the drive name, ex. C, D, E, etc, and *** equals the three letter name of your map) #:\BF2_Modtools\Data_***\_BUILD. Double check to make sure that none of the folders' names in that path have spaces in them, or else VisualMunge will have a fit, and it will do what you described.
If it is in the wrong spot, either copy and paste the folder called BF2_Modtools into... probably you C: Drive (go into My Computer and click on the Local Disk (C:)) or reinstall the Modtools into C:. I'd recommend reinstalling, just to make sure you don't accidentally delete or forget to move something along the way.
If it's not in the wrong spot, I have no idea as to the source of the problem

Have you ever tried playing a blank map, before you add anything to it?

Yes, I've played the basic munge and it works. Hmm maybe I had some mod installed that messed things up. I'll give it a couple more tries.
EDIT: I did just have BF_modtools on my desktop so I'll try what you said. Thanks for the help guys.

Now I must pray that my game does not screw up again.
EDIT: (again) Good news! I created a basic test map and it went smooth without any errors. So its safe to say that I've entered the mapping biz. See you soon and thanks. One more thing how exactly
do you munge after adding objects? Do you run the .bats like syncandrun in data_***/_BUILD?

No, you run the VisualMunge program in that directory with Common checked.

Okay, got it.
Okay I did a munge from my most recent world's build folder and got this error message from PC_Mungelog - Notepad "..\..\common\shaders\PC\specularlighting_shader.xml(3) : error X1507: failed to open source"
Should I be worried about this?
