A "popular" topic has ten(?) or more post while an "unpopular" topic does not.

Ah, okay thanks.

Edit: What is an "active topic"? There is an option at the top of the page that read "view active topics". What does this mean?

It's a topic that has permanently been "stuck" at the top of a forum so that users can see it at any time. Typically it's got information that's used often, such as the FAQ in the SWBF2 Modding forum.
