Nintendo's upcoming Wii MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo’s commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone. Nintendo will reveal more details about the Wii MotionPlus accessory and other topics Tuesday morning at its E3 media briefing.

Ah so that's what that is! In all nintendo Wii commercials those things are already shown, even in the Wii Sports one. I've been wondering what that was, seemed too big for a protective layer or something. Cool.
EDIT: Or isn't that trans plastic thingy shown in the left part of this?

@The_Emperor - It's the thing that attaches to the bottom of the Wiimote
This looks interesting. I wonder how much it'll really affect the sensitivity.

Wait... I can't tell from the pictures, but can you attach the other controllers (ex. Nunchuck) in while this is plugged in? If you can't, I'm not gonna bother with it, as the only thing it would affect would be my bowling scores

.

Yes, you can still use the nunchuck, etc. with it.
Edit: Another article, with more pics:

I'm definitely gonna wait for some reviews of it before I get it.

Nintendo has only shown this new Wii Sports Resort game to be compatible with WiiMotion Plus, and it doesn't look particularly exciting to me. Nintendo also neglected to tell third party companies that they were making it, which means it will be a long while before we see non-Nintendo developed games taking advantage of this new peripheral.
I think it's really likely to see WiiMotion Plus being included in the next Zelda game, mostly because the community expect it to happen. Most people weren't even aware that the Wii remote couldn't do 1:1 without this new device, so it explains why we haven't heard anything about a 1:1 lightsaber game.

That sounds like an inaccurate assessment of the situation, unless you have more information on this than what those two articles wrote. Yes, they mentioned some specific features of this addon being used to enhance Wii Sports Resort; but it sounds like this addon is more of an upgrade than anything else. I believe it'll allow the Wii itself to recieve more accurate positioning and motion information - and that should integrate into already published games, just serving the purpose of making the controls tighter.

I agree with
Mav', that's what this sounds like to me.

Super_Shadowman wrote:Why the heck would you need to buy something extra to improve the remote's functionality, something like that should have been included in the first place when you bought the thing! This is like they're saying that the motion sensors that you get when buying a Wii are poor... Which, according to my non-successful Rocky streak in Wii boxing, they are.
So why would you buy a computer and then upgrade it a few years down the road when they make a better graphics card/processor/hard drive? That's like saying the computer you bought is poor...

Super_Shadowman wrote:The motion sensors leave a lot to be desired in a couple of games, such as wii sports and Okami. Since they obviously had the technology to fix this, they should have made it work properly before releasing the console! What if you bought a computer package including a keyboard (The only kind that works on that computer) which only registers 50% of your input commands, only to later having to buy a separate and better version of the keyboard from the same sellers? It's not illegal, but it's cheap.
It's a pretty false correlation to compare the original Wiimote to a broken keyboard. You're missing the point - and you're assuming they had the technology to fix it. It's been around for almost two years now, and that's plenty of time to develop something new. Heck, even
if they've had this upgrade available for two years now (which I highly doubt), they may have held off thinking that it wasn't marketable to have a Wiimote that cost $40 instead of $30 or $20.

That's what I was thinking - it would boost up the cost.
Those who don't want to spend the extra money don't have to.
Those who want more, can get it.

Super_Shadowman wrote:Whoa, the keyboard isn't broken, it just needs an upgrade. You upgrade to get a better graphics card/processor/hard drive, so why not a keyboard? Or a controller for a console? Hey, let's make people pay for an upgrade that prevents the red ring of death thing on the Xbox while we're at it! And even if they didn't have that technology back then, they have it now. They can still do this thing justice by keeping prices really low or make it an extra with some of the games, but my guess is that they won't.
*Aggressively tries to draw a straight line in Okami*
How can drawing something with a pen-like object be so much harder than using a joystick!?
Well it seems like you're just looking at this from a pessimistic point of view, so I won't even try.

Indeed. If you're going to be like that about it....

They should of had this in the first place but I guess it is a good addition.

Hmmm... That's pretty interesting.
I don't own a Wii but I have played one at my uncle's house. (At which point I got beat at boxing repeatedly by all the younger cousins.)

I noticed that you could move the controller really fast but not very far and often get a better result than if you did the motion as you would in real life. Perhaps this would fix that.

If someone would invent a far superior/better/easier keyboard (don't ask me how, I'd be rich if I knew wouldn't I), I'd buy it. Wouldn't you?
Plus, it's optional. Nintendo's not going to destroy your Wii if you don't get it.
I really don't get your problem with this. Did you freak out as a kid when they made the rumble pack for the N64 too?
By the way, it is going to be an extra with the new Wii Sports game. And it's Nintendo. Prices will probably be relatively low.

Everyone seems to have been fine without this addition - it just makes it better.
Yes, it is an add-on... There is nothing really wrong with the Wiimote, this is just something that will make everything better... An ADD-ON

Indeed. The motion controls were never poor. They're not perfect, which is clearly what you expect, and is impossible without at least being ridiculously expensive, but they're fine. This just makes the controls a bit tighter then they were before. Nintendo could have had any number of reasons why they didn't make the controls better in the first place. Maybe they didn't have a feasible way to do it until now. (and I doubt it's to get more money. This peripheral would have been released at the Wii's launch if that's all they wanted)
