Just looking at the wire frame and at the front and backs of the engine pods they look triangulated to me that's all.
Edit
Update on the Otana, basically reworked a lot of it, it is a lot easier to UV now and has more curvey bits.

@Naru: Looks great, man. This kind of model would really benefit from a custom env-map.
@WULFMAN: You could make the collision for the mesh one-sided so you could shoot through one side, if you weren't planning on it already. Looks good!

Actually, there is no way to have it have any collision, that why it has a...secret

You and your secrets.

Is it a unit-prop?

Nope, its a... weapon of sorts. I made the unit to have 2 modes, Attack, and Defend. In attack mode the unit is kinda weak, with a powerful rifle, in Defense mode the unit has a strong "shield" to protect its front, impenetrable, but it has 0 offensive power, this makes a very unique unit.

That is very unique.

Off-topic: Not quite exactly unique. MandeRek's Durge unit for BF0 had non-offensive wrist shield gaunlets as one of its weapons.
The shield looks great so far, WULF!

Sounds great. Will the AI be able to use it well though? If you made it a melee unit, gave it no combo but a powerful block and had the gun as the secondary the AI would use it...

I know that the topic has a title, but I'm a little confused. Is this topic about models or is it about how we make weapons?
Just for my own edification, of course.
