I think it would look better if you made his right hand go underneath and move the trigger underneath as well. Then that trooper would look perfect!

Nice models, jedi_pilot, Repsharpshooter already made an A280, that's included in the 1.2 patch, but yours looks nice as well.
I would think your problem with your DH17 is that you forgot to unwrap both sides of the model, but that would make it appear a flat-gray....
It could possibly be a lighting problem. I dunno.

make shure you hide all meshes you dont want to see ingame (shadowvolume will cast the weapons shadow)
have you merged right? maybe you forgot to merge the uvs
or you deleted a mesh wchich is parent of your visible mesh
