Object Cutter?

Post by trainmaster611 »

I'm not sure about this but is there anyway to cut a hole in a model or have another object (ie a hallway) contain some sort of region that would cut a hole into a model in ZE in a similar way terrain cutters do :|

I really don't mind how as long as its not done in some model editing program :?

Collision? That's irrelevant

Trainmaster, I want you to sit back abit... And think logical from a 3d object's point of view - so to say

Imagine you had thi sobject in 3d. Possibly a cube.

Then you DID have some kind of 'Object Cutter' which would work the same way as Boolean. It basically subtracts the 2nd mesh from the 1st mesh or preserves the 2nd mesh fromthe 1st mesh's shape and such. Kinda confusing, but don't think about it :P

Now may I ask you something? If you suddenly COULD freely cut in geometry on models freely as you liked, it would change everything. in theory it would even delete vertices, edges and faces. And what about the UV's? You might've gotten the mesh you wanted, but the UV's on the surface - or more in the 'hole' youve created - would be totally Diet Dr. Pepper O.o HOW would it know how to look like? How can you be sure it's using the right coordinates on the texture?
- I'm pretty sure someone will think or even reply: "I would be able to see it right away if it looked wrong! :o"

Well, then it would in 97% of the cases look awful. There's a reason noone ever uses nor created such a stupid tool - especially considering it's not possible to even Edit the UV's in the program so you can fix your mistakes, making it project differently.

Think about it... You would never find such a tool useful.

do as FragMe said and use XSI so you can fix along the road :)

Why are you talking about collisions, Fred? :? I didn't see anywhere he asked for something similar to collisions...

So theoretically, if you deleted the collision and reinstated it in defined areas (meaning all areas except the hole) and then edited the skin (or I might even have to redo the UV...in fact that might be easier) so that it is transparent over that certain hole...then that makes.... :? a really long project for me to do over the summer :)

Seriously thought, it sounds like it would be easier to use object prim lines inestead of adding invisible objects with collision. Unfortunately, I have no clue what that means :P
