i thought it was just that some people didn't make the movies. some of them have them, and others have black screens

My game is pretty screwed up. I can't see the movies at all. It was like that the day I got the game. Not even the ones at the menu. It's just black. Like
this. I got a feeling it's my graphics card, but I doesn't really affect my game in any way, so I don't let it bother me. I'd say you have the same problem too.
Another strange thing about the whole thing, however, is when I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to minimize the game, and then bring it back up again,
this happens...

I've basically just come to the conclusion that my graphics card sucks. Whatever.

Hey, Shizo, you know all the command line switches that make your game work faster? If not, an overview:
Make a shortcut to your Battlefront.exe, NOT your launch BF.exe.
Change the shortcut as follows:add a space at the end, then add:
/nostartupmusic-to stop music from playing when you start the game
/intro-to get rid of all of those pesky logos and that disclaimer you've already read
/nomovies-gets rid of the backround movies(NOT the Map Movies)Sort of redundant for shizo
/name ~~~ /ppass ******-replace the ~~~~ with you're swbf username and *******with your gamespy i.d. password(not sure if this is necessary, but It looks like it,) This will skip the user selection screen. If you use gamespy arcade, add this to the SWBF command line. . .not sure how, don't remember, short on time.
and if you're running version 1.2 you could download a wonderfull nocd executable I found, it causes no crashes, and cuts 30-plus inserting the disc seconds from getting into your game. I hate the Diet Dr. Pepper CD check. . .every time I want to use free camera. . .

Schizo, the EXACT same thing happens to me... my screen is black back there too... I don't know why it does that, but it does... and I have the DIVX player, DIVX movies, and DIVX converter.. anything else I need to do in order to get that stuff to show up?

What graphics cards are you using? Like what brand and model? ATi? NVidia? 3DFX? Matrox? Give us a hint...

NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420 [Display adapter]
Sony SDM-S51 [Monitor] (14.9"vis, s/n 4034362, February 2002)
is that what you're looking for? (that was under display in belarc advisor)

A cousin of mine has that black screen too, and he also has an NVIDIA card... maybe it's NVIDIA... oooh wait... I have an NVIDIA card on an older computer 500 mhz tried to play battlefront, but the background was just how it supposed to be.

Yep, that's the info. Ok, well, you have a couple options:
1. Invest in a new card. (Usually out of the question...)
2. Update your drivers to the newest ones. You can find them at NVidia or other places on the net.
3. Try to lower your graphics standards in-game to see if that clears things up. Try reducing everything, including the game's resolution (to something like 800x600) and see if it even makes a difference.
The MX420 is an older card, and a lot of games have issues with it for some reason. I notice more issues with those and a similar Matrox card. An upgrade to even the lowest of the new NVidia line is something to consider, but only if you have the time-money-resources to include it.

nVidia MX eh? Might want to take MasterNoth's advice and get a new card. According to the requirements I found the GeForce MX series is not supported completely by SWBF. At least that's what I gather. As far as graphics cards go things from nVidia's FX series 5200 and lower are pretty cheap now a days. especially with the release of their new cards. I'm not sure if even with a driver upgrade those movies will function properly. But:
You should be able to autmatically update your drivers by going to 'System Properties' > 'Hardware' tab > 'Device Manager' button > 'Display Adapters' icon > Click on the name of your graphics card to opne up a window. > Click the 'Drivers' tab, then you should be able to get the drivers automatically from there.
I think....

Yes and no. You need to physically download some newer drivers, as Windows doesn't have good enough ones to cover what you need. Your best bet is to visit NVidia and see if they have something newer. As it stands, most video manufacturers make their drivers installable EXE files, so you don't need to do anything more than just double-click on the program to install new drivers. You might need to restart Windows, but then your drivers will be installed and you might have more luck with things like those videos.

You are using win xp, right? Then this should be the driver you need:
