Are there limits for a multiple world map?
Hi, I was thinking of a map with multiple worlds but I'm not sure if there are limits that will stop me from making such a map. Big idea/concern is to use a big terrain cutter, lower the terrain, put in skydomes with exterior parts that look like stars, and use transporters to help get around. Besides the fact that I will need to watch the object limits, are there any limits for the listed things? Thanks in advance.

there's always battlefronts renderlimit and the limit of your hardware, even though theere might not be "hard" limitiations battlefront/ your computer probably couldnt handle it. (there's also a swbf2 limitations topic linke din the everythingyounnedthread, maybe youll find more things that could apply to your map too)

the problems i can see are,
1. the planets would be close together and it would take no time to fly to,
2. people would go under the map and spam-fire from below
3. the file size might be a little big if you wanted to do online play,
4. and without some major scripting, the AI are just going to stay on the same planet because they cant land ( i think this is pending because, from what ive heard, mav is teaching them to land) and many might just jump off the edges.
Otherwise it could be a good project if your going to put the time into finishing it.

Well that's why I'm thinking of using transporters and planet domes to make it seem like the planet is where it is not. Using the space template should help seeing it has no mini-map in-game. Hmmm...Maybe you could have a transport (which is really a turret) have a set animation that loops that can take a player or a.i. to a desired location (like into a hangar) and then you could have a million billion ambush paths everywhere. I don't think the a.i. can fly up there themselves. Just sayin.

I can assure you you'll hit a BF2 render limit somewhere in there. This sort of thing just isn't feasable, I think. You say you've done months of testing - out of curiosity, what have you discovered?

I've tried putting a space battle in a land map and found that doesn't work too well. I've also learned that it isn't easy to put multiple stock maps into the same world as I can only copy the objects and they're location (this is done by multi-select and then save-group). I've also tried to extend the life extents on a land map so I can survive farther out; that didn't work too well when I tried to add "SetWorldExtents" into the LUA. I've also come across some "stringpool" errors that didn't crash the map instantly so I'm watching out for those again. So far I've managed to create geonosis and kashyyyk on the same land map using props as transporters. I voted Kashyyyk, Naboo and Yavin IV mainly as the worlds are similar it shouldn't be too difficult to set up, plus the transition from one world to another would be believable, maybe having clusters of trees to seperate each area. You shouldn't go over the object limit with that idea, whereas a set up like Kamino, Coruscant or more object heavy planets probably wouldn't work for that reason. You could also add random skydomes instead of trying to add seperate skys for each world.

You can't have your ground battle underneath the space battle or the AI will get confused. It would have to be above and to the side of it to any paths don't overlap. Even then you *might* get ground AI trying to run to a space CP. You'd just have to see.linksith wrote: Here is a side-view idea of what I have. Teancum is right. Barriers are also really annoying when setting up multilevel maps so that is another reason why it should be to the side.
It would be cool to have the space battle happening below the map. However, you would have to keep the ships from flying into the ground area with boundaries.

feasible, but the game could not support the number of AI units needed to populate the map(s?) and have gameplay be decently fun

I'll just take all the problems that the game will throw at me and just make the best map I possibly can. I won't give up so easily so I'm thinking of ways to get around the barrier problem. Hopefully the answers will come to me by GT or randomly thinking during the day.

Honestly you're probably better off trying to do the Elite Squadron thing and trying to combine one space and one ground map. To have multiple ground portions would definitely confuse the AI, and on top of that you're looking at a limit on command posts (16 total counting command vehicles is the max). At best you could combine two ground maps, but even then the AI would be totally confused.

umm i dont think kashyyyk, naboo and yavin are close together in star wars (plz correct me if im wrong! i enjoy new info) plus nobody likes yavin textures (even though the map itself is pretty good). If you did several planets that were close to eachother it would be more realistic.
