Thats because the floor is bump and specular mapped.

A look at one of the many arena layouts being designed in 3dsMax. Once completed, they can be chosen and cycled through ingame via a toggle switch. (Note that I removed the roof of the arena to be able to see).
If you have a design idea, shout it out! or draw it out.
So far I have:
- Straight walls going one direction.
- Straight walls with some at right angles.
- Straight walls with some that go along the arena curve
- Circle labyrinth shown above.
- 4-5 platforms with ramps for totally 3 dimensional combat.
- Large hill in the middle (king of hill style)
- Cylinders everywhere (potentially very disorienting
)
I will also include a blank arena, in the event that someone just wants it blank. After working with this mode, I will add hero assault and modern era for sure.

That is sick! I actually draw maps in my spare time (I spent 5 study halls doing one).
I suggest you have layouts that have a specific environment to them, like a forest arena, alpine arena, or beach arena. Or even an underground map, just with Hoth tunnels twisting around, spectators can just see right through the tunnels.

The layout switcher works, I exported all of the models thanks to mshex. I'll have to test next weekend to see which layouts are fun and which aren't, then make amendments.
I still have a big ol' list of 20 bugs to fix before release though
I'm still open to layout ideas, preferably something simple like walls and cylinders. (it has to be exported as one msh file, so you can't combine too many things together).
2 Previews of layouts:
My favorite layout, 3d combat:
A "king of the hill" style layout, ideal for hero assault mode:
And remember, you can toggle through all 7 of the layouts ingame via a toggle button.
New idea: a Free For All button, when you press it, it turns the mode to ffa and opens the arena up to everyone. Maybe it should be TDM (team death match), because FFA tends to not work very well with a team oriented game like BF2. Also, the only viable spawn points would be the two holding areas at the opposite ends of the stadium, or else you may spawn inside of something depending on the layout. Therefore, it would be best to just have cis vs rep and spawn at opposite sides.

Maybe a "condensed tunnel" arena? Make it transparent ONLY from the outside, so that outsiders can watch, but have everyone on the inside Only be able to see the 1.5-meter apart walls, the 2-m-high ceiling, and the floor. I've always thought something like that would be cool.

Fluffy, what's with the [/sheepish look]? I like the hamster tube idea.

I only remembered what Teancum said about Fragme!'s tubes for DMI and quoted it.
And for your other suggestion, reskinned Hoth tunnels could do that. Unless Rep is shooting for custom models.

Nuh-uh. You couldn't do what I said with reskinned hoth tunnels. No, scaling it wouldn't work either. It just wouldn't be right.
