SWBFII Poly Limit

Post by Fluffy_the_ic »

I'm making a model, and for the first time, I opened up the thing that tells you how many tris there are, and saw that it's over 12,000. I tried to fix it, and then did some more work on it, and it skyrocketed to over 14,000! I really wanna know
a: If battlefront can handle it
and
b: What the poly limit is.
If you need to see this model, I'll post a pic in th model showcase thread soon.

From the docs
Polygon Count Limits (general guidelines):
Props - 0 - 500 polys
Buildings - 200 - 3000 polys (the higher end of this spectrum represents large buildings with large interiors)
Vehicles - 1500 - 2000 polys
Characters - 1500 - 2000 polys

What is it?

You should post a picture cause I'm sure theres a bunch of ways to reduce the poly count.

Off-topic: Random things have been happening to programs on my comp, like for instance, the eye icon's dissappeared, which happened almost immediately after I changed the colors of XSI to look awesome to me...

Worth mentioning - I saw some guy here who got a 6,000 poly model working, even if I don't recommend you to follow his path... :music:

its allways better tpo split hige models up,even if they not that highpoly, that disencumbers the engine
and you dont have to take the polycounts too serious, look at all the jka-playermodels battlefront can handle, i think every single converted unit pushes the polycount

Yep you're definitely going to have to split that up if you want it to be a building.
I think you get a bit more leway with player models, seeing as the Republic Commando Model used in the Conversion Pack is nine thousand some polies.
