Battle of Gettysburg

Hey all you BFII fans, I have a new map I'm making!
As you can guess from the title, it is the famous Battle Of Gettysburg.
I followed a map of the battle for the overall shape of the map, but the battlefield was just too big so I took some artistic liberties. I'm planning to have 2 eras, 1 Star Wars era (CW) and a Civil War era(GCW). I tried to make the battle as similar to the map as possible. If pressed, I would say I'm about 60% done with the terrain, but the sides are hardly begun. However, I already have the sides planned out so the execution there will be fast. I hope you guys like it so far!
Ah Ha, got some Screenshots uploaded.
With I little more work I feel I'm ready to Beta Test. Signing up, anyone?

Honestly, I'm not exactly impressed with the screenshots. You didn't seem to change the default Yavin sky, and the buildings need a reskin if you want it to look like Gettysburg. I'd also use something other then Yavin objects.

I'll like to beta, but you may want to fix the things Ping said. Also, the red trooper is kinda painty.

I know, both of those were on my to-do list.
I also have a model in the works that will make it much more city-like.
That is, if my modeler can finish it.

This could be a GREAT map with alot of hard work (custom player models, cannons for turrets, sounds, etc.) but I don't believe many stock assets should be used (besides trees and rocks)
A Solitary Model won't cut it IMO, unless it's a group of buildings
TBH, I just don't see this in your screenshots:
And that's mostly because of the sides, the map itself looks decent enough, though the buildings definately need a reskin, and the sky, IMO, should be custom also.
I'd like to see screenshots or hear of what you have planned for the sides. I hope this map isn't truly 50% or more done, because this could be one of the greats with some effort and custom sides/modeling work, otherwise it looks like it will be a decent map, but not spectacular.
I apologize if I seem like a know-it-all or a meanie I am simply trying to give you valuable constructive criticism as I would hope to receive were I working on a map as big as this.
Good luck, may the force be with you.

Thanks! Yes, I was sort of exaggerating when I mentioned 60%, but I feel that only at 90% do you start the polish (ie what makes a map good). I guess I always thought that you build the map, then polish.
I already have turret cannons but they need a new model, I hope my modeler can cut it. Also, my modeler cannot handle player models, he tells me, so I need someone to make those for me. Also, I'm not sure I can get that many AI charging at each other, but I am trying. We're reading The Killer Angels is school, and I think I need more falt land for Pickett's charge. I may try to fit in a campaign mode. Believe me, these things and others are what will make this map.
I'm sorry but progress will be set back because most of the map needs to be redone, as I realized today.
EDIT: Just remebered to tell about the sides. I am planning for a normal Union/Confederate soldier as the rifleman, maybe somehow a gunner who can regen in the "cannons", a cavalier wit ha repeater, and possibly a General (Longstreet, Scott) for each hero. I didn't think Lee was a good idea.
EDIT2: Oh great, my modeler just petered out. I need a new modeler!

For Picketts charge you need the Union to have those gattling guns and cannons while the confederte just run to there doom

No offense taken, I still need a lot more on the map.

I really hope this is not 50% done. The idea is nice, but you don't seem to have a lot of execution. What about making some custom models yourself? Star Wars assets will never look right in a Civil War battlefield.
I personally would recommened trying to do a map that would be easier for yourself.

I have no ability to make models, every time I try to use XSI it crashes when I try to add a primitive, and my parents don't want me downlading Blender.
Also, I belive I can make this.
EDIT: I'm not going to be able to work on the map for about a week. Sorry, I'm just very busy with things in school and such. (Lots of tests)

about the overal look of the map: what lesovikk said
about the "custom models all owwar!!!: there are very few (big) projects with a lot of (planned)custom models which got to the first beta-release, custom(side)models dont make a gameplay better, they only improve the look and that should come after the gameplay
whgat i want to say is that you should be carefull not to get lost in details like custommodels when your maingoal is making an enjoyable map

It won't be very enjoyable if it doesn't fit its own map name...
If it were to have a lot of succes(or any), it would need the units to actually look like Civil War soldiers(custom player models), and the props should like things you would see during the Civil War(custom models).
That's why I said I would recommend doing a map that was at least Star Wars themed, so it wouldn't need a lot, or any, custom models, therefore making it easier on the mapper.
I am not trying to be rude, but perhaps we should recall the "World War 2" battlemaps that never really got off the ground.
