Mission Scripter Problems...[SOLVED]

i used the mission scripter to script a simple objective, just to test it out, and i changed the "con" to "conquest" so the cps would be recognized, but when i play my test map the objectives show up as "[NULL]" ...any suggestions? heres my .lua:

This is your problem:

Code: Select all

text = "if you see this, the scripter worked", popupText = "capture the command post"
It has to actually point to a localized objective. It doesn't work by just putting the text in. I'd explain right now, but I'm kinda busy. You can always check the stock campaign mission scripts to see what I mean!

I might write a tutorial on how to use the scripter, since it does mislead a few of its new users D:

so then, from my understanding, the objective texts arent simply written in, but are "codes" that, when in-game, show the objective text defined by the certain "code".

for example:
Hidden/Spoiler:
-- OBJECTIVE ONE Conquest Objective. Capture the Jedi Concil Chamber.-----------------------

Objective1CP = CommandPost:New{name = "Consul_CP", hideCPs = false}
Objective1 = ObjectiveConquest:New{teamATT = ATT, teamDEF = GAR, text = "level.cor1.objectives.Campaign.1",
popupText = "level.cor1.objectives.Campaign.1_popup"}
Objective1:AddCommandPost(Objective1CP)
that is an objective fron the coruscant campaign, where the player captures the cp in wherever. the text is "level.cor1.objectives.Campaign.1". so, for my campaign test, instead of "capture that cp", i would put in a "code" like that? making:
Hidden/Spoiler:
--objective: conquest
Objective1CP = CommandPost:New{name = "cp2"}
Objective1 = ObjectiveConquest:New{teamATT = ATT, teamDEF = DEF, text = "if you see this, the scripter worked", popupText = "capture the command post", AIGoalWeight = 0}
Objective1:AddCommandPost(Objective1CP)
into:
Hidden/Spoiler:
--objective: conquest
Objective1CP = CommandPost:New{name = "cp2"}
Objective1 = ObjectiveConquest:New{teamATT = ATT, teamDEF = DEF, text = "level.cor1.objectives.Campaign.1", popupText = "level.cor1.objectives.Campaign.1_popup", AIGoalWeight = 0}
Objective1:AddCommandPost(Objective1CP)
at least, that is my understanding of it. someone please correct me if im wrong.

You are correct. Those localization strings are really easy to set, the periods simply separate the scopes. In your localize tool, you'll open up "level," then "cor1," then "objectives," then "campaign," then "1" and you will see that localization. You can make your own using the same format (but like any other localizations, all of the 'branches' except for the last one will be scopes and not keys).

Yes, but not whether to create a new file in "editlocalize tool" or can be made from the same file that opens. thanks for responding.

My map would work better in conquest mode if the rebels focused more on capturing CPs than on attacking enemies. Is there any way to change or tweak this using objectives? Also are there ways to alter AI intelligence?
