Flyer ignoring firepoints?

In a flyer model I made from a stock cruiser prop, I copied the aimer/barrel node setups from a couple different flyer odf's, neither type of setup works at all. The same is used for another smaller model, and works, so I'm unsure what's wrong. The error log has no errors regarding the cruiser, except that it mentions that there is a vehicle spawn outside of it's control region.

Does the size of a flyer model cause problems with loading firepoints? the thrust fx and dmg fx nulls load, and I think the firepoints load, but no matter which nulls I use as firepoints, they aren't used.

the model was mshexed, but that should not matter (for usable firepoints at least)

the shots come from the dummyroot, not from the "hammerhead" nose cannon firepoints ("hp_fire_bow_1" and 2)

the nulls are used by damage effects i think, and the engine ones did work for the thrust fx, but i removed them in case there were too many nulls. but the weapons still shoot from the dummyroot.

EDIT2: the hp_fire_bow_2 firepoint IS there, a thrust effect attached to it no problems, but not the weapon...

Could it be that the corvette is just too {Diet Dr. Pepper} huge to use the firepoints?

Your problem may actually lie in your odf for the flyer, it is looking for aimers and since it can't find those it is using dummyroot as the aimer and such the hp_fires are either being ignored or are being associated with the only aimer it can find and that is why it is firing from the dummyroot.
Try putting in aimer nulls, they can be at the same location as the hp_fires. Are these weapons meant to basically fire straight ahead (or side as case may be) with no aiming other than the way the ship is pointing? If so look at the awing.odf as an example.
