It seems another star wars game will not see the light of day. Weather it would have been good or not is in the air(well the negative feedback from the closed beta would say otherwise). Discuss

Yeah, I played the closed beta and it was really pretty awful.

Oh man, this is both hilarious and sad. Hilarious, because the people I've talked to who played the beta said it was awful.

And sad because Star Wars games are so completely dead. Hoping for a good reveal at E3 for DICE's Battlefront...

I know that my beta feedback was both extensive and disappointed. Honestly, I did not picture that as being the majority response. Guess there are more people out there stuck in X-Wing/TIE Fighter-land than I thought!

The only thing I'll miss is their map designs. They were killing it there. If their flight mechanics had been even half as good, they'd have a pretty decent game.

Yeah man, definitely. The flight mechanics felt almost worse than Battlefront's sadly. :(

It'd be a shame to let the models go to waste, any of you guys with the beta care to upload the game files somewhere so we can extract them? :)

It was a Unity browser-based game, the only client-side installation that took place were glorified cookies.

A client based free to play is disaster from the start. However EA needs to find a way to get a new Xwing vs Tie Fighter in my hands pronto.

They were probably all rehashes of existing models anyway. Heck, SWBF actually reused several Rogue Leader (Gamecube) models.

They even used the Snowspeeder and TIE Fighter models from SWBF2 in The Force Unleashed. They just updated their textures with new high resolution ones.

Okay, but really, the SWBF2 vehicle models were pretty accurate, especially for things like TIE fighters with no moving parts. When you get down to it, every model of a TIE fighter from here on out (if it is created to be realistic) is going to be exactly the same, save the texturing.

Right, I wasn't saying it was a bad thing, was just stating that they literally use the same model.

I can't help but feel upset that yet another Star Wars game has been canned. Even if it was bad, at least it might have given us an idea of what's to come.

What does that even mean? It was a bad game, that was what was coming. It is a good thing that, for whatever reason, it was decided that people didn't want this game. That means that there's one less wrong direction EA/Disney will head towards when making a Star Wars game.

Wow, poor choice of words on my part, sorry. What I meant was that I always feel upset when a Star Wars game gets cancelled, even if they are bad they are almost always fun to mess around with. What I meant by the second sentence was that I was happy to see that EA is actually paying attention to their fans, and what's to come will hopefully be much better.....and as a side note hopefully not pay-to-win, if they continue with a free-to-play title.

I'm glad someone got them, I hate to see any Star Wars game art disappear into the void.

All I have to say is that I'm not surprised. I also played the beta and I didn't feel like it was that great.

Here's an alternative download with the Tie Fighter, A-wing, Firespray, X-wing and YT-1300 all together, if you're like to avoid multiple downloads.

It's a smaller download overall as well.
