The only time I have ever seen Bothawui was in Empire at War, and this map does a good job of recreating its appearece, not just that, it looks awesome by itself. I too will be watching this one with interest.

Thanks and sorry, i messed up on the quotes lol. I'll edit the post now.
edit: ha, i just noticed your avatar, made me smile.
and as for decorations, anyone think a few crates every now and then would look good?

Wow sampip, just WOW. This map looks like your best yet. I can't wait to see the final production.
Btw, what happened to your other maps you were working on?

They won't have any weapons though
With the Bothans you could do a kind of Gungan thing where there primary weapon is a fusion cutter (to repair turrets and things) and there secondary weapon is somekind of Bothan grenade.

That woudn't work, because they're civilians. I mean, how many civilians do you get carrying grenades around the place?
I'm not sure if they even should have the fusion cutter, it's the least violent weapon and it stands in for not having a weapon at all, because I'm not sure how easy that is.
Does anyone know where I can find those Rends and Vyse assets Teancum was talking about?

Normally I think crates are ok, but in this case, I believe they wouldn't fit in the environment; I got the impression that the cities of Bothawui are very clean and organized (fitting for a Bothan), and I don't think they would leave crates randomly lying on the streets.

Good point, thanks.
I think I may put them around one or two command posts (storage crates for ammo left by the team sides), I could reskin them to be ammo crates (as a replacement for ammo droids, which would also not be left around on the streets) or something but it's slightly far fetched. They'd have to belong to a team. I'll add them in and see what they look like, if they're bad, scrap 'em

I agree that detail is important, and I like what you've done so far, but maybe you could work backwards: find a reason to have crates lying around. I see you have a canal: maybe you could add some docks, the crates, a crane or two - you know, like a shipping port.

Interesting idea, only problem is, I am useless at model making and can't convert anything atm. It's certainly a nice idea though, just need to find some models I could use for it. Make it a CP. Couldn't have ships though, they woudn't be able to get past the bridge.

This looks amazing. But one thing, my comp crashed on Naboo before I got the fix removing the water. If this is Naboo water, might that be a problem? (Aside form my computers lack of pwnageness.)

I'm really not sure, sorry because my computer doesn't have that crash. When I release the beta, if it crashes to people with that error, then I could always release an alternative. Sorry i couldn't be more help.
@Nova Hawk- sorry didn't see your comment. Alaris Prime Forest is finished just got to pack it up and release it with the sides. No campaign I'm afraid. As for Alaris Prime lake, I could always release it as it is but I don't find it very fun

, not sure though. I'll try get them uploaded this week.

That looks impressive.
Very impressive.

As for the cover issue, how about having some Naboo fountains dotted around? I think that would fit better than random crates.

Got almost too many fountains already lol. There's 5 dotted around atm but I don't want one every metre, I'm looking for little things that double up as design features. I'm currently working on the battle, which is rubbish atm but should get better

Yep, and then the Seine river (or so I thought after looking through it at first) is 2 after that, and might I say this river here looks nearly as good as it does in Paris.
sampip wrote:DarthHamster wrote:Wow, I think your the first one to do that! I'm guessing the Bothans will be friendly to the clones and rebels?
Yep. They won't have any weapons, though. I might put in an extra warrior unit for the Clones and Rebels though
Fixed

.

Wow Pip, wow. Looks like the best map I've ever seen you make, nothing I can really pick at here but you did ask for suggestions. My Diagnosis.(Stuff to improve/liven up.)
Add small shops, little hot dog/(Insert star wars delicacy here.). If not that then newspaper racks, trash cans, fire hydrants, or vending machines. Next time your out, take note of all the little things that you see.
Add civillians, but since you said you were aleady going to do that I'll just add on. Put some R2/R4 units and protocol droids to vary the population.
Add some ships flying over head, just to give the battle a more chaotic feel; ambience you see!
Add Hunt mode, that mission in EAW is really fun; to be able to play in BF2 would be awesome.

I'll take those ideas and use then I think , thanks

As for the other one, I can have a go but like I said, my modelling capabilities are limited and I'll have to take a look at downloadable things. Other thing is, this map has an extremely simple layout. It is very, very basic and there isn't much height variation for now. It's not a very complicated layout. When I release the beta (please don't ask yet), I will ask people how I could make it more complicated but for now don't put your hopes too high lol.
This picture shows the basic layout, there are a few other bits hidden by the lack of view:
First shots of battle on the streets:
The battle isn't really working atm and I will probably replace the command posts (which will slow down progress a bit

,
but not more than a day or two) because I really want a good battle before I can carry on with sides.
EDIT: Just downloaded Vyse's assets, the buildings look good and I'll probably use them but unfortunately the other things seem to be missing bits of texture. Ah well, can't have everything. Update on map soon, I think

CodaRez wrote:Maybe ur hunt mode can be like this:

Featured in EAW, where 2 Royal Guards and the Empy single handedly slaughtered a LOT of bothans for giving the death star plans.
Units are of course the royal guard, perhaps Empy, and *corrupted* bothans. (hinthintaddredeyeshinthint)
Its the same as the one i mentioned. I believe

Oh sorry, didn't see that

.
Now, I've downloaded some of that assets recommended and I have to say I think they can be put to good use. I've started on some interesting detail for the map that I like. I couldn't use Vyse's assets because of some texture problems but Rends' are perfect!
Piccies will be posted by the end of today/start of tomorrow so watch this space! Oh, and by the way, Beta Testers are needed, but please
don't ask yet as I'm not yet at the stage I want to be when I release the Beta.
As I said, new pictures coming very soon, so watch out
Edit: Just had a PM from Nova Hawk which reminded me, any ideas for extra Era's you want? I'm thinking the Dark Times, seeming as this is based on GCW action.
