I was trying to place a new unit (Elite) and....

First off, I need to give thanks to Qdin for patiently teaching how to create/modify a new unit. I was working on creating a new Shock Trooper called the Elite Trooper. I modified the req, msh, odfs. However, I think a few problems. First off,

I can't find my custom unit imp_inf_elite.

Second I'm not entirely sure on this, but do I fix in this impshell?

I don't think you need to do anything to the impshell.
You have to add your Elite trooper to the Language files.
Right click on imp, then click on Add Key, make the new keys name be inf_elite.
Then go ahead to localize it.

very true Dragon'. Droideka88 you have to add it in the localize tool by adding a key to imp like dragon said. and just to add i wouldnt edit the impshell it may cause a crash.

Ok I am having no luck so far. First off, I added "inf_elite" to EDITLOCALIZE and I overwrited the req file by using the assets. I "Clean", then "Munged" and the LogBuilder doesn't come out with any errors except warnings about collision (does nothing to crash problem). Maybe there's something wrong with my LUA. Also, I had to delete Imperial Officer because I screwed up its odf.

can you tell me what exacly has happened? crashed or just not come up in unit list?

If the unit is not showing up ingame, but the level is running fine otherwise, then your problem is that you're using the default IMP .req file (you said you overwrote using the assets, so I'm assuming you are). You need to create and add a .req for your new unit to fix that. If it's CTD, then you've got some other problem, most likely something was incorrectly called in an .odf.

It crashed in the middle of loading the level.

What's CTD? I'll check to make sure odfs were spelled correctly. I don't think the LogBuildernever encoutered any errors regarding the odf files.

CTD stands for "Crash to Desktop".

Post your error log so we can get a specific idea of what's crashing the map.

The BFII Mod Tools exe file. Put it in your Gamedata folder and run it. Then post the BF2 Log it makes.

Stupid question but what is the name called? bf2cmd or BFront2? This quote is bf2cmd. The other has nothing in it. Nothing.

Hold on. So Message Severity 2 is not a threat, meaning it doesn't affect the game crashing?

And ace, I noticied in the odf property, I accidentally typed imp_inf_rocketeer into the geometry name when it should've been imp_inf_shocktrooper. I never made a msh file called "imp_inf_rocketeer". Ok I'm going to see if this finally works for....future maps (haven't started one yet....)

Schizo told me that all "option" files, or Softimage files, need a ".msh" next to whatever you're making. Remember that in the future rookies.

One more thing. "OverrideTexture" is good in the ODF properties if you don't want to go all the way back to editing.

Bad news. Game still crashes.

I do have a msh file called imp_inf_elite. Schizo thinks the file may have been corrupted during munging so chances are I might have to start over and work on just the backpack.

In addendum (just in case you were unaware), when an unfamiliar crash happens, instead of trying to figure out everything in the BF2Log, just Ctrl-F for "Message Severity: 3" - it'll usually be your problem. (As it is in this case.)
