Can someone explain this real quick? I heard somewhere they have to be modeled, but I'm not sure of how to implement them or if there are any other steps.
If I can get this working I plan to make a couple interesting maps.

Just download those assets and read the custom_icons.txt file included, at the bottom it explains what you can do to make your own icons.
