I was just thinking to myself "Wouldnt it be cool to have a weapon that shoots stcky explosives like the Needler in Halo?" Does anyone have any tips on how to set up the ordanance for that and how to make the explosives stick to enemies?

In your weapon's _ord ODF. Also make sure that the _ord ODF's ClassLabel is Sticky.

Also, Skyhammer already released a bunch of weapon assets, one of which is a snoutgun (shoots sticky grenades that explode after a set time).

I think while you are at it, make it so it causes medium damage to units if thrown at them (like the grenade launchers shot at the head). It would make me laugh real hard.

No, you don't. It may be a .rar or a .exe and you just need to add the extension to it.

It looks like a .7z to me.
http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
That page has DL links for a program that can open 7z, zip, rar...

thanks guys i might be done with this in a long time if i can finally get a decent understanding of how xsi works because lately ive been playing around with the trial and havent gotten very far
i looked at a bunch of xsi tuts but there isnt one specifically about weapon design so i will just figure it out myself

You don't need xsi to make a new weapon, just a model.
If you want a new model, that's a different story.

I think he's trying to make a new model for the weapon.

yes i do, but i want to make a special type of cylandrical grade fired from a sniper, so i need to make that in xsi, also this computer i am using deleted microsoft work without my input so its hard for me to get my hands on some good tuts i also have a huge number of vehicle ideas to make for the game, but i have to learn the incredibly confusing xsi first and when i get this sticky genade launcher thing down, i want to apply it to my vehicles in their turrets, weapons, etc.

I'd make a map first.

yes i have my map layed out, but it wont be released on filefront for some time now, since i will soon be getting a new computer with windows 7, and i will transfer my map onto that computer. The reason why i want to do all of the sort of ambitous things, is because i dont want my map to fall prey to all those first map problems that reviewers stress over. also my computer has very crummy internet, and i already tried to upload my map to fielfront, but this computer was incapable of doing so

If you don't want your map to fall prey to the common first-timer problems that reviewers stress over, I would recommend not trying more ambitious things, as you put it, and isntead just concentrate on making a really solid map. Something simple but bugless.

ok i guess i will do that but which program do you think is better for someone who is new to modeling; blender, xsi, or sketchup?

I didn't have that much trouble learning XSI and afterwards I was able to directly use MshEx without having to worry about the whole Sketchup-to-MSH conversion pipeline or any Blender equivalent.
