The guys over at Free Radical have gone under, as you may have heard. They fired most of their staff and are now in limbo, in a sense.
An ex-employee had posted some images from the in progress Battlefront III on his blog. They were rehosted by swbf3.de and several other sites.
Click the spoiler to see the pics: (be warned- they are from 2007 so things may have changed.)
Supposedly, the project has been picked up by
Rebellion, the guys who made Renegade Squadron. Not sure what to make of that.

I knew they were holding out on us. I just hope that it still gets finished and released considering that Free Radical has tanked. We can only hope.
BTW who is Shara the bounty hunter?
@ Nova Hawk: I'm sure LA will release it on PC, if they didn't it would kill the modding community and they would lose a big fan base. In other words if they didn't, it would be financial suicide.

Maybe they can release it for the Wii too.. that would be awesome!! I hope they continue it!
EDIT
I checked on the first link and they did say that it will be released for Wii but I didn't see PC on there...

I hope LA releases it on PC (if it does, indeed, get released at all). I just don't think they would leave us modders out in the dark like that.
Edit: That was Amazon's list now that I look at it; perhaps the list was simply incomplete.

So did FreeRadical go kablooey from the economical crisis or something else?
But dang...Compared to the other 2 Battlefronts, Battlefront 3 looks...I dunno the right words for it. It just looks better now.
But the company better dang well release it for PC!

If they dont, well then anyone can hold up a gun to those peoples heads right now.
They'll do it anyways, eventually...

If they didn't have modding in SWBF3 it would hurt Lucasarts one bit. They could make a terrible game called Star Wars: The Dookie Battles and it would sell well. It's Star Wars, so frankly if one of us doesn't buy the game (or even a lot of us) they won't be hurting.
As far as the fate of SWBF3 goes, we know Free Radical is closing in January 2009. The
RUMOR is that Rebellion Studios (who did SWBF: Renegade Squadron) will be taking over.

While the models look great, some look awkward. Han looks like a gorilla.

I hope they're gonna make it for PC, but I'll take Wii if they don't.

Yeah I knew they were going under I read it on GameSpot to bad because those are some really nice models. I don't think Rebellion will do a good enough job on it but now's their chance to prove me wrong.

If anyone hasn't noticed, this thing has been under work for a while. Look at the copyrights on the pictures. They're from 2007, so the game has been under production for a while. I hope they're close to being done.

Quite honestly I don't expect models of that caliber/re to make it into the final cut of the game. Cutscenes and trailers maybe, but the tricky thing about the SWBF games is that rather than ten or twenty player models on screen at once, you can easily have upwards of fifty or sixty, so graphical detail is toned down generously to make room for larger-scale fights.

I noticed Mac. Oh boy, A SWBF III. I hope it's true as I am getting tired of SWBF II.

To be fair Rebellion had to try to make the game good on the PSP --- SWBF2 wasn't that good on PSP either and it was done by Pandemic. So if they have a chance to use all the next-gen goodness we can expect great things.

Glad that LA is keeping the project alive. Sad still that Free Radical went under. TS4 better come out.
Those screens are impressives. I just hope the game is done right and with great online.

You do realize that SWBFIII is still a rumor? These models may have been done to show LucasArts that they had a project in mind. That they'd be capable of making the game. I can't be certain for the games release partly due to the fact that it was LucasArt's Secret project. Whether this is what they were actually going to go through on remains a rumor.
