so when I went to rename a msh and tga files and all those sort of files, when I tried to load it, it didn't work. Is there a way to rename these files, and preferably quickly?
thanks

yes, use the pspad 4.5 for open the .msh file and into this change the .tga name to your new .tga name for example:
lala.msh
lala2.tga
into on lala.msh and change the tga name into this to lala2.tga

I've never heard of pspad 4.5. Would you be able to use normal notepad, or must you use a hex editor?

you have to use a hexeditor, because the mesh is in hexformat
look into the "how to use the same unit with different skins" topic linked in the everythingyouneedthread

It depends on what you are trying to do. If you are trying to rename thistexture.tga to thattexture.tga or thismodel.msh to thatmodel, msh then it is as ckmcruel said. But you can't just rename a tga that a msh is looking for cause it won't find it and you'll just get a bunch of white objects.
To change the tga name a msh that is looking for then you would have to hex edit the msh file as deviss-rex mentioned with one change to what he said the file name has to have the same amount of letters so if it was looking for lala.tga you could use lal2 as a new name for the tga. You can use anything actually just as long as it has the same amount of letters.

oops you have reason i forgot, than the new name into of msh file must have the same number of letters than the old name for example how you said:
old name into msh is lala.tga so the new name must be 4 letters lal2.tga, new2.tga etc o can be less lala.tga to lal.tga and the rest hex edit it
