Not sure if this also applies to Windows 7 (Yes, I realize it says Vista users only), but I'll try:
AceMastermind wrote:Questions for Vista users ONLY:

Did you upgrade an old XP machine to Vista or purchase it already installed? Windows 7, installed after I built this computer

Any help? I get that runtime error when I try to run ZE.
Also, I've tried running it with 3D Analyze - no help there.

Windows 7 Release Candidate: Build 7100
No, it's not the "leaked 7600 Build"... That's probably a virus anyways.

the full will hopefully have more compatibility than the RC. Have you tried running in compatibility mode?

I have the same problem with 7 x64. 9800 GT, updated (Also Nvidia...)
I think I'll dual boot XP. Its the ultimate solution to this problem and if you have Vista or 7 you can partition right from partition management. Just make sure to download EasyBCD and Netframework 1.1 (the redistributable package) and place them in your drive root where they'll be easy to find. Installing XP almost always wipes out that fance boot loader vista has and replaces it with its version which can't boot later versions. EasyBCD will easily restore it.
You should probably also have a copy of your Graphics and Network drivers on hand just in case something goes awry and you need to ask the internet for help.

The other thing to do is to post about this on sevenforums.com.

Edit:
No matter how premium your home is, you aren't going to be licensed to use this, but as long as you're RCing it,
download XP mode. Your core/main board might not support hardware virtualization, but check your BIOS and see.
Still it doesn't look like its working.

Drivers are really causing a lot of these problems. I got a virus and had to do a full hard drive format, and installed vista. ZE didn't work, but I got DriverMax and used it to update my Radeon X850 driver, and now it works.

I don't think that there is any confirmed proof that ZE works on a 8600, that problem has appeared for many other 8600 users, as well as myself, and it was solved by downgrading.

Okay. Thanks for the info. So is there a way to downgrade w/o having to switch cards? Some kind of download? I can still downgrade by switching to my 6150 LE, though I think it doesn't work with ZE.

Have a look at the Statistics to see what others are using and what they did to get it working at that time, that's why it's there.

At least 2 people and a possible third has the same card and OS as luke61766 and they all got ZE to work with it:
AceMastermind wrote:Statistics
(502)GEN.york got ZE to work after a gfx driver update:
  • Vista Home premium 32-bit
    Nvidia Geforce 8600 GT
mswf got ZE to work after a gfx driver update to 186.18
  • Vista home premium 32-bit
    NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS
Nova Hawk got ZE to work after a gfx driver update to 186.18
  • Vista Home Premium 32 bit
    NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS
@luke61766
You stated that you're using driver 195.62, the stats say driver 186.18 will work, so try rolling back your driver and see if it works for you.

I tried rolling back. There was no difference. I also wanted to add that my 8600 GTS isn't integrated and I didn't connect it to my power supply because it doesn't have sufficient power to give to my GFX card. Maybe that might have to do with my problem?

Does ZE work for you?
  • Nope.
What edition of Vista or Windows 7 are you running?
  • Windows 7 Professional
What graphics card are you currently using?(example: NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS)
  • NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS
What's the current driver version of your gfx card?(example: 186.18)
  • 191.07
Did you upgrade an old XP machine to Vista or Windows 7 or purchase it already installed?
  • ZE worked fine on my old Vista machine, but then it had its hard drive switched to this current 7 Professional.
Are you running 32 or 64 bit?
  • 64 bit
What version of Microsoft .NET Framework do you currently have installed?
  • Not sure, but I downloaded and installed the 1.1 package linked to on the first post in this thread.
Since I have Professional, I've downloaded and tried XP Mode. No go. 3D Analyze didn't help either. Any suggestions?

  • Not sure how to find this out.
Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> NVIDIA Control Panel -> Help -> System Information

Ah, thanks, post updated. Although can it really be the graphics card driver if the graphics card worked fine back on the Vista hard drive?

Yes, it was the fix for me, though I'm not sure with the Vista - Win7 relation.

No, what I'm saying is, this computer originally had a Vista hard drive. That got corrupted, and they swapped the Vista hard drive for a new Win 7 one. But I'd assume they kept the graphics card, right? Would they change the driver? This is physically the same graphics card I had back when this computer used a Vista hard drive, and it worked fine then.
