Displacement/distortion effect? [Solved]

If any of you have played SWBF2 on the PS2(maybe on the XBOX, don't know), you may have noticed a distortion effect shoots out when the explosion of a rocket launcher is triggered. Is this effect possible in the PC version?

If you mean what I think you do, not only is it possible, but it is present in the stock effect. If not in the rocket explosion, at least in several other explosion effects. If you open up the effect in the Particle Editor, the bit you're after is probably referred to as "shockwave" or something similar.

It's been awhile since I fired up the PS2 version, but I could do so to check what you mean.

No it's not the shockwave; it's an invisible circle that distorts the background.

Like the sonic blaster? That's probably the exhaust from the missile.

Sort of...but a bit different.

@Noobasaurus
Is there something preventing you from tracking down this effect in the ModTools and viewing it in Particle Editor? It looks like the Flare emitter of com_sfx_weap_flame_exp_md.fx might be what you're after.

Indeed that is it. I did not look it up in particle because the effect does not exist in the PC version of SWBF2. I am wondering if it is possible to re-create it.

:? Why wouldn't it be possible if I just told you the name of the effect you described in the first post which happens to be located in the BF2_modtools? While it is possible for the same effect to render differently from console to PC I really don't think Pandemic used a different effect here.

It seems you are confused. While they both are literally the same effect, the PS2 seems to have an added effect which is a distortion layer that expands out from the center or the explosion that the PC does not have.

No, I am not confused based on the information you are providing. The effect exists in the modtools so why wouldn't you be able to recreate it?

If you are talking about the one you said to look at in PE, then it did not have it.

it does. it is the emitter "Shockwave" which has the blend mode "blur" which "works ingame," but is "not supported" in particle editor.

But is it visible ingame?

if you are asking if i have seen the blur on this effect: no, but i never looked closely/for it.
if you are asking if blur is visible ingame: yes, look at the incineratoreffect or the ventilation shafts on the landing platform on mustafar.

Well, I can't see it.

And yes, it's pretty much like the Mustafar effect but circular.

i would suggest turning up the graphics but i have worked with blur effects, actually making them and yes they are there, they are just a bit difficult to see on explosions because they are nearly clear and tend to move fast and last for a split second, and the explosion kinda gets in the way.

the ps2 version is probably easier to see because of how the graphics are set up or something like that, at least thats my guess since i don't have the ps2 version of bf2, only bf1.

I see. Thanks for the clarification all! :)
