Vehicle Envelope Problem [Solved]

Post by Luke »

Hey Guys,
I started improving Pandemic's ATTE few days ago and when I started enveloping today, I always got a problem with the frontguns.

So, when I'm enveloping the gun, it allways moves in front of the ATTE and gets streched a little bit. (look a the two pictures)

Does anyone here know a solution for this problem? I tried out many things, but nothing I did worked.

The part that is moving/stretching looks like modified or new geometry. Did you freeze the modeling operations before setting the envelope? What kind of things have you tried?

Yes, I freezed the modeling of the gun. That's what I always do before I'm enveloping something. (but I don't know if it's required for enveloping)

The things I tried afterwards of this:
- freezed all transforms of the gun.
- freezed all transforms of the aimer node to which the gun should be enveloped.
- set a neutral pose for both things. (and removed it after it hadn't done anything)
- merged the gun with the main mesh from the ATTE (what I actually wanted to do after the enveloping, because it might be easier when the gun is a seperate mesh)
- deleted all animationkeys from the aimer node.

And I tried enveloping to another aimer node (the main turret one's) and the same problem as of the gun aimer node happend. (It also looks like on the second picture)

You should never freeze bone transforms.

Did you freeze geometry transforms before or after inserting the new geometry into the hierarchy?
Did you remove the envelope before modifying the ATTE and did you notice any bones shift position when you removed it?
Stretching like that requires at least 2 bones pulling it or 1 bone scaled on one axis.

Are you using the ATTE template from ZETools? Its probably best to just strip everything from the scene except the geometry, then bring in the skeleton (with no animation) and envelope it.

Ok, I got the solution.
The streching and moving showed up because of a scaling which I did to the complete ATTE at the beginning. I scaled the ATTE a bit up, because I thought it was a litte bit to small. And at this time the boneroot for all the atte bones and aimer nodes was in the hierachy a child of the main mesh from the ATTE, so I unintentionally scaled it up, too.

Thanks!
