It may be a dream at this point, but it's a very well-thought-out dream. Most importantly, it addresses the money factor - the production costs would be minimal, and LucasArts could make a considerable profit.

I really wish I could push this. I have a lot of connections due to contract work I've done, writing about games, and doing mods, but unfortunately have no ties to LucasArts that would be worth a darn. Maybe if I actually had the gumption to start up a new business I'd go for it, but it's a dive I don't know that I'm willing to take when I have to put food on the table. Now if they happened to stumble upon this thread and wanted to hire me as a contractor to help out (along with some other veterans) I would jump on that in a heartbeat.

In fact, that's why I worked on the Xbox mod - it started out as a proof of concept that I wanted to pitch. I was going to eventually strip the Xbox version of SWBF2 of everything except what I wanted in SWBF Arcade, rebranding the screens and whatnot, but I don't even much have time to work on the mod proper.

It's a shame. I know I could do a great, professional pitch for the game that would sell it to LucasArts. I have to do stuff like this all the time for work. I just don't have the connections nor the time to do it. :(

If you ever do get the time, I really hope you decide to at least pitch this to LucasArts. I really can't see why they wouldn't want to do this, as the profits they would make from Live would be huge compared to what it would cost to port this.

Hopefully they do see this so you can at least know if it's a yes or a no. If you wanted us to, I guess all of us could try to do a huge promotion thing by emailing LA employees or something, but that's a plan that could either go really well or really badly.

It certainly is a shame that great ideas can only go as far as the person's connections. On a hopeful line of thought, as the XBLA Fans website develops and expands its reputation, maybe you could land an interview with someone from LucasArts - of course, this would be a fairly long-term possibility, and would require LA to have some level of involvement in Xbox Live Arcade (I don't know whether it does or not at this point). Assuming this happened, you could at least get your foot in the door with even a low-level connection.

As unlikely as it is to work, I used the letters to George site to write Lucas a letter:
Hidden/Spoiler:
Dear Mr. Lucas,

Since I was a kid (and I still am) , I have been in love with Star Wars. The richness of the universe and characters, environments, and concepts truly appealed to me and stimulated my imagination. In part, I owe my art skills today (I am applying to the Brown-RISD program next year) to doodles of Darth Vader and stormtroopers as a kid.

When I was about 12, I found a new way to act out my love for Star Wars- video games, particularly Star Wars Battlefront I. When the sequel came out, I was ecstatic.

I played for many years in both games, joining many online communities dedicated to the games. When Star Wars Battlefront III was rumored to come out, my friends and I anticipated the best.

However, the game, as you know, was cancelled, and us fans were left without a new Battlefront in the foreseeable future. However, in one of my communities, a moderator, Steve Melton, under the alias of Teancum, drafted a plan for a future battlefront. After years of dedicated support for the PC and Xbox modding community with his Conversion Pack (the most downloaded mod for the game), he published a plan on a site he became an editor on: XBLAFans.com. This is that plan: http://www.xblafans.com/xblas-most-want ... -6160.html

To quote him, when SWBFIII "had been canceled, canned, dropped... 'I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.'" Mr. Melton is extremely dedicated to his plan. He writes: "I know I could do a great, professional pitch for the game that would sell it to LucasArts... if they happened to stumble upon this thread and wanted to hire me as a contractor to help out I would jump on that in a heartbeat... I just don't have the connections."

For the sake of a community dedicated to a franchise you so lovingly created, I urge you to find a way to get a communication going between Mr. Melton and LucasArts.

Thank you,

Doubt it'll be of any use, but it's worth a try.

wow, I haven't been on gametoast for a long time (FSX and simcity4).
Anyway, this is awesome! maybe the psp could have some more stuff, though. I like that letter a couple posts back.

OFFTOPIC: 100th post, yeah!
