Terrain Munge Error!

I created a space assault map and established and editable terrain by replacing the ABC.TER with the yavin.ter. In ZE it worked and I could see and edit it, but when I go to the game, there is no ground, no hangars, no capital ships, no cp. In fact there's nothing but a Space Sky.

Nothing!
My only clue is this when I was munging...
Can some1 tell me what's wrong?

Are you sure you have the .ODFs and textures in the right folder?

This sort of stuff has happened to me when I dont have enough free space on my disk. Make sure your disks aren't to full, and if your getting any windows warnings pertaining to that take heed to them

This is how I arranged my folder. I've done it for other maps and its worked just fine!
If you "don't have free space on your disk", then what should I be deleting to clear up some memory?
This is the Munge Error Report thing:

The log report was so long, it took up 21 pages in Word!

So I just won't post that...

Stuff you dont need? Its hard to just say, because if I give you advice like "temp files" and you mess up your computer, I feel at least in someway accountable.
Just get rid of stuff you dont need. If you have old data_XXX from leftover mods that your not working on, zip em up and move them to another hard drive. Or, if you have some time on your hands, you could upload stuff to places like filefront (though I wouldn't recommend doing so..its supposed to always be there, but if it gets deleted, you cant hold anyone accountable).

There's an update to the fourth post.

I don't know if I'm allowed to bump this if I have updates and more questions. I copied the Yavin1.ter and Yavin1.ter.option files to my GM6/World 1 folder and deleted GM6.TER . Then I renamed Yavin1.ter to GM6.ter and and yavin1.ter.option to GM6.ter.option. THis is the munge log:
ERROR[levelpack GM6.req]:Expecting bracket, but none was found.
File : munged\pc\gm6.terrain.req(1)...
ucft <--

I can't find a gm6.terrain.req file anywhere in the Yavin World 1 folder but there is one in World 2 folder. But it also has its own Yavin2.ter and Yavin2.ter.option folders. So I'm wondering if it is necessary to only use Yavin World 1

. Because I want to change it to antoher world that would be easier to work with.

If I am stuck with Yavin World 1, what do I do about the req file? Btw, what is an req file?
Note: Admins...was I allowed to bump this thread?

The file you are looking for is in data_GM6\_BUILD\Worlds\GM6\MUNGED\PC.
Chances are it is a mostly empty file and may just say ucft or something.
Having had this before, either move or delete this file. Clean in visual munge
then remunge.
Hope it works

Oh this is what mine looks like for one of my maps
ucft
{
REQN
{
"texture"
"yav2_main_1"
"yav2_main_2"
"yav2_main_3"
"yav2_main_4"
"yav_detail"
}
}

Well I did that up to the point of taking it from PC and renaming it. How exactly do I just clean that particular file? And is the ter.option necessary? Btw, what is uctf?

In visual munge just choose the clean option, it will ask you if you are sure just click yes.
Then remunge the normal way
uctf is a required heading almost every file has it

But where do you put uctf!?!?!?!?!?!? :emp:

In a word, nowhere the file was corrupt, it happens when you play with terrain files sometimes.
When you do a clean and remunge it rewrite all the req files that are in the munged/pc directory.
I just out of habit delete the corrupt file so it can't come back and haunt me later. You also have to
make sure you copy all the tga and tga.option files that that are related to the terrain file you are trying
to use. You may also in ZE terrain editor reassociate the proper tga files to the appropriate squares
on the left hand side.

So that uctf thing is the code you use to rewrite the req. Is that right?

And when I copy the new tga files over do I have to rename them too?

Posted: Wed Nov 08, 2006 2:10 pm
by FragMe!
Forget about the uctf thing it is created automatically by the program. The tga files should keep their original names as that is
what the terrain file will look for even if you rename the terrain file. Just the same as a mesh file will want to see it's tga
files if you rename them.

Well at least your original error is gone. I don't know what the yavinx.tga is but have a look
at it with a graphics editor and if it doesn't look like anything you need delete it. If it is something
that is required it will have to be resized. Either 64 x 64 or 128 x 128 if you needed it around that
size. As for the BF2error log sorry can't help with that but it may be a result of merging a space
map with a gound map.
Good luck

today i had the same terrain.munge error.
It happened after using a new ground texture i put in the world1 folder. After removing the file and deleted the painting in Zeroeditor it works fine again.

So you deleted the tga file or the ter file?

I know I had painting on there for before I added the tga files. Wonder what difference that would make

i deleted the tga file. Once done i opened the map in Zeroeditor and deleted the paintings. everything i painted appeared white now
because Zeroeditor couldn“t found the texture. so it was easy to remove the paintings.
