Yeah, but you could just use objects similar to that which you wish to make to get the gameplay working as you want it, then go for the custom models.

He could, but it would be very difficult to make any Star Wars props look right in a Civil War map, as I said before.

Ok, he knows it will be hard, but don't put him off!
My 'improvement' ideas:
- Change the sky!!! It's easy and only takes a good 15 minutes or so.
- Change the lighting to match with the objects you used. Decide on an environment (or more) and test it/them out to see what you think goes best.
- Darken the terrain and don't just use the Yavin default terrains. You can import loads more from other maps to vary it a little.
- Use a wide variety of props, not just ruined Yavin stones. See what else you could reskin and put in your map.
- I think I say this to a lot of maps, but add some foliage. It really adds to the atmosphere of your map and gives it a nice touch.
All in all, you look off to a good start, but I might say you would want to take the % completion down a notch to give yourself something more polished and nice looking to aim for. I think this could end up being a pretty good mod!

Thank you for the support!
I already was working on a good sky, but I'm really busy right now so I don't have much time to work on the mod.
Also, we were reading The Killer Angles in class and I realized there was a whole other area NW of Gettysburg that Buford held (we already were past that; I was looking at the diagrams) and I was planning to make the battle slowly shift like it did in real life. (In campaign mode of course)

It won't be very enjoyable if it doesn't fit its own map name...
If it were to have a lot of succes(or any), it would need the units to actually look like Civil War soldiers(custom player models), and the props should like things you would see during the Civil War(custom models).
That's why I said I would recommend doing a map that was at least Star Wars themed, so it wouldn't need a lot, or any, custom models, therefore making it easier on the mapper.
I am not trying to be rude, but perhaps we should recall the "World War 2" battlemaps that never really got off the ground.[/quote][/hide]

I think DarthD.U.C.K. was referring to custom player models, which wouldn't really be necessary now that I think about it, what would be necessary is some high quality re-skins:
I know the soldiers are just a drawing and a figurine, but their uniforms seem to be accurate enough IMO
Some hex-editing,a few quality re-skins, and you have the whole army right there

Good idea, although I'm clueless about hex editing.
I completely forgot about that model (and in any case, what's the msh name for that one? imp_inf_officer?)
they only improve the look and that should come after the gameplay

Yes, exactly my philosophy.
Yeah, but you could just use objects similar to that which you wish to make to get the gameplay working as you want it, then go for the custom models.
I'm planning on using re-skinned tat2 houses for now.
I'm not able to work on it much but I can say that my plans for the campaign are beginning to coalesce.

Sorry, I think I have enough Beta Testers right now.
I may change my mind later....
And after today, I have plenty of time to work on the mod!
I will be making lots of progress soon.

i think that this could be really great, now we need to edit the fire rate, and bulets insted of lasers

UPDATE!
Minor, that is
I decided I'm going to go ahead and include all of the battlefield, including the areas Northwest and Southwest of Cemetery Ridge. This means a LOT more mapping in ZE for yours truly.
However, on a much more positive note, I received a wonderful skin for a confederate soldier for AgentSmith_#27, and with it I'll be able to make a union skin much more easily. Also, I have someone modeling for me. Expect a good sides update soon.
NEW UPDATE!
Okay, I have the skins for three of the units.
Unit 1: Union
Union Spy
This unit is able to sneak around the battlefield, and his saber makes him excellent for leading charges. He's got a small health amount, but his survival goods help keep him alive.
Unit 2:Confederate
Confederate Trooper
This is the staple of the Confederate Army, his rifle can help with any attack. His weapon is slightly stronger than the Union trooper's (not in real life, I added for balance reasons) and will be a vital tool if the Confederates wish to win.
Unit 2: Confederate
Confededrate Officer
A leader of the CSA forces, this officer is able to hold back a small number of troops with his pistol. However, when the going gets tough, he'll need some troops nearby that he can attack buff and defense buff. His buffs are much larger-ranged than the stock buffs.

That can be done through the weapons odf laser coloring, and a new "laser" texture.

thx for the tip on laser textures, but i hae no clue how this is done and i dont even hav swbf2, yet that is.
EDIT:
AgentSmith_#27 wrote:This could be a GREAT map with alot of hard work (custom player models, cannons for turrets, sounds, etc.) but I don't believe many stock assets should be used (besides trees and rocks)
A Solitary Model won't cut it IMO, unless it's a group of buildings
TBH, I just don't see this in your screenshots:
And that's mostly because of the sides, the map itself looks decent enough, though the buildings definately need a reskin, and the sky, IMO, should be custom also.
I'd like to see screenshots or hear of what you have planned for the sides. I hope this map isn't truly 50% or more done, because this could be one of the greats with some effort and custom sides/modeling work, otherwise it looks like it will be a decent map, but not spectacular.
I apologize if I seem like a know-it-all or a meanie I am simply trying to give you valuable constructive criticism as I would hope to receive were I working on a map as big as this.
Good luck, may the force be with you.

maybe you could make the weapons weaker, and the mele weapons as a scondary and have those with greater power to make this happen durring online play. oh and again im new to this.
Double posting is against the RULES, please EDIT your post instead -Staff

If you have both melee and ranged there are no secondary weapons.
EDIT: Psst, don't doublepost.

Hmm, for some reason your units sound too Star Warsy. Maybe if you change Trooper to Soldier and Officer to some rank like sergeant it would be better? Also a Union Spy carrying around a sword during the Battle of Gettysburg? That doesn't sound right in my opinion. By the way, "Unit 2" should be the Confederacy
Anyway, how long are we talking when it comes to reload time (for rifles)? 15 seconds at the minimum?

Confededrate Officer
Ooops, didn't see that. Wow.
Also, I think I have it changed to 'soldie'r in the localization, but I think I'm going to keep 'officer'.
And the fire rate, I think I have it toned down to about 8 seconds reload. Not tested ingame yet, though.

IMO, keep the reload time in single digits to be sure. Also, here are a few thoughts of mine on weapons, etc. Feel free to ignore any of my

thoughts
Basic Soldiers Possibly a couple with different skins/rifle models:
Weapon 1, Slot 1: Musket, whatever you have planned for it
Weapon 2, Slot 2: Bayonet,
should be the only melee attack in the map IMO, could use the grenade throwing or ammo laying anim (or something that would work better)
Weapon 3, Slot 1: Flintlock Pistol. Like the musket, with fewer ammo and shorter range.
Medic:
Weapon 1, Slot 1: Shotgun (I don't know what else to say here)
Weapon 2, Slot 2: Could have some nice replacement for the stock bacta that also heals units.
Officer:
Weapon 1, Slot 1: Revolver
Weapon 2, Slot 2: Inspire- Gives a defense bonus to your units
Weapon 3, Slot 3: Charge- Give an attack bonus to your units

I have the officer like that already. Also, I'm going to have a sharpshooter with a better zoomin (they didn't have scops). I'm also planning for my pointunlock Militia Unit to have the shotgun, as I researched Civil War weapons and shotguns were not among them (but they were invented). I also have the sniper with an "autoturret" that acts as cover for him and other soldiers. Also, prototype 'grenades' were invented. My carbine has 7 shots and a longer reload then the rifled musket, but the ammo is also weaker. Planning to use luke skywalker reskin for one of the union units.
There is hope!
I found that Google Sketchup works on my computer, and I believe that I have someone who can convert the models for me. Still hearing back.
Also, I got a GREAT cannon model. Can't wait to get it in-game!

WOW...that is eerily close to what I have planned and am making!
I think I'm just going to list the units I already had planned.
Union Soldier
This unit's
musket and
bayonet are the standard tools of warfare. He is a valuable unit for any assault.
Union Sharpshooter
This unit's Zoom Rate is much higher than the Soldier, and his sight is much more effective. HIs
Sharpshooter Rifle has been hand-modified for increased accuracy.
Union Calvary (Dismounted)
This unit has a hefty
repeating carbine that fires at a much faster rate than the musket. He is otherwise unarmed, however. (This unit acts as a heavy class and the carbine is similar to the rifle you mentioned.)
Union Spy
This unit was mentioned in an above post.
Union Officer
While mentioned above, I have edited this unit to have a
pistol,
health buff, and
defense buff.
Militia
This unit has both a
shotgun and
private pistol for all-around support.
Union Grenadier
This unit is the only one carrying the powerful
grenades. He also has a
Colt Dragoon Pistol that has higher damage than the norm and even can knock over a soldier!
Union Medic
While weak, this unit carries a large amount of
Medicine Packs and is easily able to heal other soldiers. His only self-defense is a weak
Knife.
Those are the sides I have already planned, you came pretty close to what I had!
The Confederates get pretty much the same deal, but the don't have calvary. Instead they have the
Confederate Artillery Specialist. He is the ONLY unit with a
Repair Tool and has a devastating
Gatling Gun Deploy to REALLY secure an area. His
custom-made pistol is the only weapon with a Zoom scope on the battlefield.
Rifle
+Moderate Damage
+Moderate Range
+Moderate Ammunition
+Moderate Reload
+Moderate Accuracy
-Low Rate Of Fire
Not sure what you mean by this, is it a carbine because I dont think this sort of thing has been invented yet. A link proving me wrong would be great because then I could use it!
