Kinect for the 360
Basically for those who do not know what Kinect is, its a revolutionary new way for you to interact with your 360. You no longer need to pick of a controller to watch movies, play games, chat with friends, etc. It is all motion-sensitive and it responds to all of your body movements, just wave your hand and it'll do it for you.
I haven't yet to try it out for myself, but this thing looks awesome. I've watched a few videos on it with Inside Xbox and am quite surprised. What do you guys think:
If you haven't seen anything about it, here's a preview for it:

Re: Kinect for the 360
I still prefer controllers. Not getting it now, seeing as the current selection of games seems to be targeted at the Wii shovelware audience, and probably never will.
Hopefully the series that are out now never require the Kinect, because I guess I'll have to miss out on the next installments. I honestly just don't see the point of spending $100 for an add-on that really doesn't add much more than novelty.
Also, it appears that Kinect can not recognize darker-toned faces most of the time, doesn't work well outside or in areas with a lot of sunlight, and has trouble reading anyone over 5'11".

Re: Kinect for the 360
Even without the shovelware, I'm doubtful it'll attract a realgamer audience. Take the already released move. Who's gonna play serious games (Killzone, GOW) with the move controller? While I'm anxious to see what the technology yields, I'm doubtful.Fusion wrote:I still prefer controllers. Re: Kinect for the 360
Just another knock-off of the Wii controller, except it loses the controller part. In that regard, it isn't revolutionary. Since there are reports of lag, I'm tempted to say that the Wii, while older, is still superior. I say "tempted" as I've never tried out Sony's version or the Kinect.
Agreed. And seeing how I'm 6'0", that's another reason for me not to get it. That is, if I owned an Xbox, then I wouldn't bother.Fusion wrote:I still prefer controllers. It feels gimmicky to me. If I wanted motion I would have bought a Wii. But more power to those who end up liking it.

Hmm, I think Kinect would go well with some sort of first person fighting game, otherwise I'm not really interested, it's just a gimmick. Besides, if I wanted to physically exert myself, I would go outside and play soccer or basketball or something of the sort.

Kinect is pretty intense, I own at boxing and table tennis, and I don't need controllers and stuff which is nice.
Soccer kinda sucks though.

Is Kinect worth buying?
I'm thinking about getting an Xbox 360 for Christmas, and I'm wondering whether I should get the more expensive package that includes Kinect or stick with the cheaper package that doesn't have Kinect.
What are your views on Kinect?
My only new-gen system so far is a Wii, and it sucks. I use it for only one or two games. The Wii is a system that's dedicated to motion sensing, is it not? The Wii also does not have very many good games for it. So would Kinect, also being a motion sensing form of gameplay, have a bunch of bad/boring/"family" games?
From what I've seen so far, games that rely on motion are usually boring. Dancing and sports...well, what about shooting? Causing destruction? I could do more active dancing and sports at any time of day in real life.
Also, how much does Xbox live cost?

Re: Kinect for the 360
Unless the 360 is going to be in a large room with at least 8 feet of space from the TV, don't get Kinect. Do, however get something better than the 4GB internal memory version that's out now. They've got a 250GB, or you can always buy a used one. 4GB burns up quick getting XBLA games and DLC.

Thanks. I'm getting a package from Best Buy that comes with a 250GB and a headset, wireless controller, WiFi, and 1 month membership.

Re: Kinect for the 360
Yes, don't buy the Kinect yet, unless you are desperate to play Dance Central. There are practically no games for it (except for Dance Central, which you will have to admit is a solid release, whether it is your style of game or not), and the system still needs some patches. Maybe the Kinect will prove it's worth later on, but for now I would recommend staying away from it, it's not ready yet.
