One of the programs that was mentioned in the skinning guide was GIMP, so i got it and opened the file rep_inf_ep3_trooper.tga using GIMP and it said Error. Invalide win34 file. Did i do something wrong? did i miss something? Should i try a different program?
Thanks

What he said.

(make sure that you're not opening the .MSH file, either)

The above two are key.
Lol, that can't have made a very nice impression. You open GIMP for the first time and get a slap across the face.
Once you get the hang of it it'll cooperate.

ok, cause i checked like 5 times and they are .tga files.
So i should just mess around and see what works with GIMP?

If one doesn't work for you I'd be willing to bet they all don't.
Try re-isntalling GIMP and making sure you have the latest version of it.
If GIMP fails, another program that is free and excellent for skinning is Paint.NET.
