Battlefield 2142 causeing restart...

Post by Syth »

Got the game a couple days ago, played only 3 of the maps, then today i tried playing the last of the main 4 and my PC rebooted and gave the "serious error" crap. Now, just trying to load up Battlefield 2142 causes a reboot... which is quite annoying :runaway: . Cant even try out first strike. Anyone of you computer savvies know why this happens? Maybe not enough power? I donts know...

Try uninstalling the program and remove the profile folder for the game in "my documents" (If I remember correctly). Reinstall it, open taskmanager by ctl+alt+del and make sure cpu load graph is visible (assuming xp or later), run it in window mode while keeping an eye on the graph.

To run in window-mode:
Right click the shortcut (ie on desktop).
in the "Target" box ... change "+fullscreen 1" to 0

ALSO then click Advanced...
Check ON "Run as Administrator".

Click OK.

If it doesn't do it after re-install, it was a software issue with the prog, maybe a setting got messed up sporadically or something. Get back up to where you were and see if it gives you the same error msg. If the graph spikes and then system restarts, something with hardware, probably CPU overheat or it hit a bad spot that burnt out. If it doesn't spike and restarts, It's hardware that may be your videocard. GPU may have crapped out on ya or the drivers got corrupt. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers first before forking out money though.

Keep us updated on any changes so we can see what else it could be.

Okay, i have tried some of those things. No crashing (so-far) but, a new weird error.
Map loads, and the annoying tutorial hints come up. Then i try to move the cursor to choose my kit, and nothing happens. The cursor is frozen in the center of the screen; all the game interface is pretty much all frozen. I can only get out by opening up task manager (which minimizes the game) and ending the game process. I tried reinstalling everything, still does it.
I only have the 1.4 BETA 2 patch installed on it, i dont get it. :runaway:
