Rage Against the Dying of the Light [SWBF1] "best of pc" mod

Post by PoRCH WooKIE »

SWBF1 isnt dead, but its dead for modding. I mod SWBF1, but I only know one other person who does. Its because "Best of PC" doent recognize patches or the modding tool. Big Mistake by Lucas Arts (or whoever, i dont know or care who, mistake none the less). I was playing in 1.2 today and there were 245 players in multi-player (thats not bad). There are still new ppl coming into the game, they just cant mod and are stuck playing 1.2 becasue they have "Best of PC".

*Tip:
To mod, to try 1.0, and use 1.3 for freecam, I had to go out and find the original release of the game (went to 5 games stores). good luck.

if SWBF1 is Dead its becasuse a retail mistake killed it. :duel:

for local mods (not MP) you could hex edit stuff if you know how. thats how this all started :) no tools modding of swbf is possible but way limited. good luck , if you try do a google on free hex editors, and try jusdt opening files and changing values. (and remember the force (and risk) is with you. always)

Mapping is dead for SWBF1, because Zeroeditor doesn't recognize the DVD BoPC version of the game (the fact it is DVD is the killer part). You can however download the tools, then edit and munge the sides, and use them, or write the .lua to call up an already made map (either stock/shipped or something another person made-get permission), and make and load custom sides there. I have BoPC and very infrequently go and mod it.

To put it bluntly Zeroeditor and Particle Editor are some of the most finicky, downright prissy and picky little modding tools around, in terms of running it on a computer (they are easy to learn though).

As for the other BoPC games:

Unrealed editor (for Unreal engine- Unreal Torunament, Republic Commando ect) is supposed to be very easy, but I've yet to learn it. Darth_Z13 said its similar to XSI though, and it does come with and work with the BoPC Rep Commando game. Also, the KoToR tools work with BoPC, but the EaW ones don't, as for JKO, I have no idea, but since it runs off the Wolfinstein Engine (RTCW, CoD, etc) it shouldn't be too hard to mod the BoPC one.
