Elfie, couldn't you save ZE time by just modeling those things onto the desk? If you know exactly how you want them.

Random Crate with Lid, done in about 45min, Just the Model and Texture, no scaling or anything yet for SWBF2.

redgroupclan, I also had that idea 2-3 years ago, but then the map's location was a small boy's room. A very good concept anyhow, I hope that you finish it! :plokoon:

And thats my desk for an idea on a map I got. The map theme is that the soldiers have been shrunk down to tiiinyy size and they ended up on a school desk. But as a reference for size, the grid is next to it and the little while dot on it in the middle is a snowtrooper. Along with the giant desk Im working on a giant pencil, giant eraser, etc. School supplies you'd normally find on a desk.
modeling everything big might slow it all down. Why not model small and then scale everything up at the end.

If you mean scaling up ingame, like with .msh.options, then that won't work, not on the scale he's doing. If you scale a mesh up that way too much, like 2x-3x or more, then the collision messes up.

Not with msh options. Can't you just combine, or maybe you say merge everything and then scale it in XSI. Or, you might not want to merge everything, but you can still scale things.

...Elfie...?
And no I dont want to model them on the desk. If did I wouldnt be able to use them with other things, and someone might actually want them to scale em down for their own purposes or something.

And YJJ, unless I get an error that halts the whole map production (which I get on nearly every map I make that NO ONE can solve), Im going all the way. :D

big models slows nothing down in game, its when they have a pointless amount of detail (polys).

I wasn't thinking ingame, but in XSI.

same thing applies, make it in XSI whatever size you need it to be ingame, if you need a reference then 2 grid squares = the height of a standard unit or clone trooper.

For me, or at least at extreme scales, things start to slow.

The real important thing to remember if you are making really big things like the desk is to have a good lowres model as well.
On the desk since that is your playing field if you don't have the lowres you desk will start disappearing pretty quick.

So how do I make a lowres?
For some reason I think FragMe and YJJ are the same person...

I'm pretty sure you duplicate the original, scale the new one, rename it lowrez, take the original's texture, and scale it down in size.

Say your model is named "desk", duplicate it and name the duplicate "desk_lowrez". You should probably also give it a lower resolution TGA, and reduce the number of polies it has, unless it already has very few.
