Hey all,

I've been working on a small mobile game for the past month or so, and I'm interested in seeing if some people are willing to help me test it out. I'm tentatively calling the game "Pyroclastic Flow." It's a sidescrolling infinite platformer (a la Canabalt), and here are some pictures.

I'm used to working with more developed SDKs (e.g. SWBF2) and developing in 3D, so this is an experiment and a learning experience for me. If you have a few hours to spare to try this out and give me some feedback, please let me know - I'd appreciate it.

Looks interesting! :o I'll test it for you - I even have professional experience via Nintendo! :P Post or PM the .apk and I'll get right to it! :)

Note: I can only test it if it's compatible with Android 2.3.5 or 4.0.3.

I'm developing for mobile/flash, but I still have an .exe build (in fact, that's all I have right now). You don't need a mobile device to test this, just a PC (although I'll be happy to send you an .apk when I get around to making one).

I'd be more than happy to help out the man who inspired me to start modding. Looks interesting, glad it can be played on the PC since I don't have any mobile devices that could support it.

Not sure why, but those two screenshots reminded me a lot of the old Tiger Handheld games. I'm sure it plays nothing like them (which is good), but the resemblance is uncanny.

I can test it on PC. Also have an iPhone 3GS, but I don't know if you're planning it for iOS.

Hey guys,

If anyone would be so kind, please give this a try. I've got a more-or-less finished version of the game up. Please let me know what you think.

This is the first flash version I've put up, so the testers will notice a significant difference - progress is saved, and I have a web-based high score table set up.

-Game moved to first post

Couple of nitpicks, other than that, played really nicely.
1) I don't think Experience should be displayed after one-button mode.
2) If you're going to have a mouse be the main form of input, perhaps have a hover-over color change on the buttons so the player knows the mouse is enabled and what to click on while on the menus.

EDIT: It could also be made a bit clearer that you can only select one element to use at a time in Element Mode until you have mastered that element, at which point it becomes permanently bound to that key.

I like it, but a few things:
I've only played element mode, but when you die there should just be a "play again" button so you don't have to keep going back and choosing an ability. Which brings me to my next point. You should be able to just choose one ability and have it be developed, and there is another option when you die that works just like the one you already have.

So yeah theres my little review :) The first time I played I was like, "whats going on?????" and died immediately  :funny2:

I agree about the "play again" button. I also think it may be useful to display the experience for the particular element on the GUI while you are in the level, instead of just finding out once you die on the level. Overall, I think its a very nice game and I can tell you have put a ton of work into it. Keep it up Mav!

I've made a couple of small fixes to the game and pushed them. The request for clearer information on mastering abilities has been addressed, but you probably won't see it since the game will save that you're past the point of using the tutorial. You could clear your flash cache and see it again (but you'd lose any abilities you had mastered). The other fix was the request for a restart button at end-of-level. Let me know if that works like you guys wanted.

I'd also really appreciate it if you could submit any scores you have (is that feature transparent enough?) - it's helpful for me to understand whether a game is too easy/too hard by seeing a range of scores.

I've moved the game to the first post, so that it's easily visible. I'll probably push this version live on a couple of sites if there are no major requests. I'll be out of town for a few days, so please try it out and let me know. Thanks!

My high scores disappear when I refresh the page. (Not the online ones)

Yep, as intended. I figured if people wanted to keep a score, they'd submit it. The only things saved between sessions are ability experience and whether the tutorials have been viewed. Was there something else you wanted saved?
