Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl *Spoilers Start At Page 46*
Would anyone be interested if I made a few posts about where certain game elements came from? I'll start with a few here, just to give a basic idea of what I'm planning to do.
Porky Minch:
Also known as King P., The Pig King, and Pokey Minch (in the English version of Earthbound), Porky is introduced as Ness' loud, obnoxious neighbor. He appears throughout Earthbound (Mother 2 in Japan) as the dimwitted antagonist, even working for a brainwashing cult at one point. However, he goes missing during one part of the game, and ends up as the primary antagonist's (Giygas, who's mind and form have been lost forever) right hand man, and claims to have been working for him the entire time.
The following video is the battle, note Porky's machine.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gbG_gzgyJI
After Giygas' Ring-inspiring death, Porky taunts the heroes and says he's going to time travel. How he does this is up to debate.
He reappears in Mother 3 as the leader of the Pig Mask Army (PMA), now much older due to some side-effects of time travel, and creates several creatures known as Ultimate Chimeras (The ultimate life form, as Sakurai put it). After some time, he forces the residents of Nowhere Island to travel up to New Pork City, a carnival-like airbase overflowing with his boyish likeness. His residence, Porky Tower, is guarded by a giant statue with 1,000,000,000 HP, which can only be defeated by the item 'New Year's Eve," as seen in the following:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8d3IH5Nq ... re=related
Some time after, he "ends the world" and Lucas and co. must defeat him in his now famous spider-mech. As he lay weakened, one more attack would kill him, he enters the Absolutely Safe Capsule. Fortunately for the world, it cannot be destroyed, and cannot be opened. Porky is tapped in there for his immortal life. However, I understand that if you inspect the capsule, it says something along the lines of "the door nob fell off..." so he might be back if they decide to make a sequel. The battle may be viewed here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6ahPxGY ... re=related
Tabuu's Inspiration:
While many think Tabuu is a completely new character, he has many things about him similar to other characters in the past. The first thing you may notice is that he has a striking resemblance to the Disney character, Tron. The second is that he appears very much like one of the characters in Geist:

His fighting techniques also have Sakurai's past creations in them. You'll notice that his "Shark" move is exactly like 64 Master Hand's punch attack. The biggest inspiration has to be Marx, not the man who started Communist ideas, but the Jester Bat from Kirby Super Star. You'll notice Tabuu's "Dragon," "Butterfly (in the form of a super-bomb)," and teleportation in the following video of the Marx Battle:

That's awesome Fusion. Marx's Butterfly attack also looks very much like a Subspace bomb as well.

Thanks for the feedback
Lucas' Green Color Scheme:
In Mother 3, you start the game by being introduced to Lucas' family; his Chuck Norris-like father Flint, his mother (forgot the name, sorry >.>), Lucas, the cowardly brother, and Claus, his twin adventurous brother.
*Okay, it is impossible to find a picture of this guy*
During the game, their mother dies and they become separated. Claus somehow falls into Porky's clutches and is brainwashed into Masked Man, the general of the PMA. Why did Porky do this? Lucas and Claus both have the ability to pull the Needles that keep Nowhere Island asleep (one of Lucas' victory poses in Brawl), and pulling them all allows the pull-ee to control its dragon-like form. Now working for this sole purpose, even after Porky's imprisonment, Claus/MM tries to pull the final Needle and Lucas has to go into battle, alone, to stop him. The following is the fight: (other parts are in related) (The Giygas/Claus fight is not the actual ending, but an element left from the beta)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-BMZDfw ... re=related
Claus uses the Franklin Badge (the projectile reflector in Brawl) to block Lucas' PK Thunder attack, but in the end he understands that he must stop himself and directs a PK Thunder against himself, killing him in the process, allowing Lucas to pull the final Needle.

Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl *Spoilers Start At Page 46*
From what I've read (prior to this) the Earth Bound series sounds a little dark, which is surprising since it's cartoonish look (and portrayal in the Super Smash Bros series) gives the impression that it's a light-hearted series. To me that makes it seem even darker.

Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl *Spoilers Start At Page 46*
It's...interesting, to say the least. It has lighthearted parts, like Ness growing a bat from his head. But I do understand, heck, Earthbound/Mother 2 is actually a parody of America (takes place in "Eagleland" and includes cults, monopolies, etc.)
The main purpose of the series is to show that even in the worst case, good emotions will prevail. Take Giygas for example. When he still possessed a physical body Ninten drove him off by reminding him of the one who cared for him, Maria, and when Giygas became ultra-creepy-red-face man he was destroyed by the player's prayer (for a whopping 23950 Damage! O_o) for the goodwill of people he never even met. (Ness and co.)
You know, this sounds an awful lot like Ghostbusters 2, now that I think about it.
Oh well...
For those who don't know who ROB is...

ROB was a sort of "Trojan Horse" used to sell the NES. Yes, that's right, there was actually a Video Game crash. 1983, the year that many video game companies went bankrupt due to a severe lack of sales. A $100 box wasn't exactly well thought of in the early years. But Nintendo did something clever. They included a Toy Robot with the system that would work with the game Gyromite, and toy store companies wearily bought the NES's. It was a total success, mostly because of ROB. So in a way, we might not even be playing Smash right now if it wasn't for him.

They've given a release date? Where?
You really ought to buy a Freeloader instead of putting up with Nintendo's stupidity.

Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl *Spoilers Start At Page 46*
The Dojo has stopped posting updates today.
"This Smash blog has spanned about 300 posts in almost 11 months, but now it is time to say goodbye.
Before creating this site, I knew I wanted it to be updated 5 days a week and support several languages. It was clear that this would be a massive scale for a website dedicated to a single game.
A lot of people around me were particularly concerned when I told them I planned to write blog posts while development was ongoing and continue to provide updates. Some argued, some just looked concerned, and others asked, "Can you really do this?!"
And all of the text in the articles was written by yours truly, Masahiro Sakurai. Make no mistake.
But the real credit for making the unthinkable possible should go to the Brawl staff who took screenshots and did follow-up work, and the Nintendo home-page staff who did the updates.
I also must thank the localization staff of Nintendo of America, who did the translation from Japanese to English, as well as the language specialists on the European production staff who handled the translation to several more languages.
I feel gratitude for those who helped that I can barely express in words. This site has been supported by so many staff members.
I created the Dojo with the intention of offering breaking news-type updates prior to the release of the game, and organizing the site so that it could be used as a database of features in the game after its release.
Now that Brawl is available, I am hoping that players will continue to use the site as a resource for information.
Also, there’s always a chance that I will need to update sometime in the future with some kind of announcement.
Thank you, everyone!"
I wonder what he means by future updates...

Lol, I've been keeping my Wii on overnight to get those "100 Hours of Brawls" awards... pretty fun.
And I only have like 25 more Challenges. Al though I just can't seem to get through Boss Battles on Intense, so I may use a Hammer for that one.
I also got all of the music, it's pretty good, I must say. I'm trying to beat Classic with all characters now, its very time consuming.
