I am not a fan of him as a character. As an Actor, I am a fan of Samuel, and the reason why Mace has a purple blade is because Samuel insisted upon it.

I think, like most jedi of the old order, he is too stern. Thats why I like Obi-wan, he is fun.

Yeah, Mace is cool, but he seems too serious all the time. I've never seen him play a joke. Yoda plays pranks though.

OT Yoda does, but I hate the PT Yoda, for the closest he got to a joke was in ATOC when he and Obi-wan are looking at the starmap with the younglings. TCW Yoda is awesome again, the very first episode "Ambush" shows that.

IMO, PT Yoda was what Yoda was really like for most of his life. Then OT Yoda was after 20 years of total isolation with no human contact whatsoever. Does a number on a mind, even one as wise as the great Jedi Master. Of course he's going to be a little eccentric.

I realize (and knew) all that, doesnt mean I agree with it. If I am supposed to like a character, I want them to be fun. Obi-wan is high on my favorites list because he is fun, he actually smiles and does jokes. Thats what I want a jedi to be. Thats just my opinion.
