my battlefront pc disk got screwed up today and I might get it for playstation 2. Is there any way to play mod maps on the playstation 2 with some cable or something?
I might remember seeing something about it, but I am not sure.

Shouldn't have thought you'd get the pc mod on your PS2. I think you can play PS2 games on your PC if you have an emulator. Having said that you may be able to use SWBF (PC) on you PS2 via your PC but then you'd still need the PC version and probably still wouldn't be able to get the mods. Ebay yourself a pc copy and then wait for SWBF2

are "mod maps" all user made maps, or justmaps with new content(troops, vehicles..)?

All user made maps. If it was as simple as just just new content then maybe there would be a way of linking it to your console, however they're not just a tweaked version of the maps which accompany the game, the modtools available mean pretty much anything is possible (if you know how to do it). When you're up and running again download some of the mappacks and see what's about and what's possible.
