Why doesn't anyone do those "flames" with a white background? Why always black?

I wondered the same thing. Turns out, it's because it's easiest to make 'em look good with a black background.

Dark red (maroon-ish) flames, white background. Or pretty much any other colour.

Just so you guys know, (sorry if you already do) but the plug-in I used turns the background black automatically.

It's most likely possible, assuming you don't use an ugly shade of purple and ugly flame colours.
And anyways, I meant the flame colour, not neccessarily the background.

Just to prove Dohnutt's point I shall now create a fractal with a background other than black. I'd say it's pretty cool.

I would also say that's pretty cool. Heck, that's really cool! lol

Okay what iv done in photoshop for a new series of avatars

Avatar for gametoast: Avatar for Xfire: Avatar for steam:(this took me a hour to get the right steam size and file size )

They look great!
Only problem I have with them is on the last one, the dude looks a bit out of place (as in, the colours look odd together, or they don't blend, or something like that...).
