The One Answer I Can't Find!

This must be the simplest question in the mod community, but I need to know what to do after I've changed an ODF file. I've switched the darktrooper's spreadshot with the auto rifle, but I just can't figure out how to get it into the game. I've tried SPtest and the normal launch, but neither does anything diff. If the answer is in one of the tutorials with the mod tools, please tell me the name, I must have skipped it
Thnx!
PS: I'm trying to have this affect ALL OF THE SHIPPED MAPS for use in like Galactic Conquest. I'm looking for the simplest tutorial you can give me.

thnx

ok...
STEP ONE
Create a project.
STEP TWO
Import the retail side IMP
STEP THREE
change darktrooper's odf... (leave the file name alone though or you will have problems)
STEP FOUR
clean your project by clicking the clean <mod name> on the BFBuilder Pro.
STEP FIVE
Munge your mod by clicking the munge <mod name here> button
This will take it through the processes of packing your files into an lvl file.
Once it's done...
STEP SIX
Look in your BFBuilder Addon folder for your <mod name>
Open the folder up and open the SIDE folder... grab your IMP.lvl and copy it. Then go to your game directory (where SWBF is installed, and go to game data, and find your installed SIDE folder. Overwrite your current IMP.lvl with your altered one.
STEP SEVEN
Then run the game... see if it works.
STEP EIGHT
Worship 00M-9 and construct idols made of fine aluminium to sell at McDonalds Seminars...

ok not getting it... how do you import a side?
Posted: Mon Jun 20, 2005 9:56 am
by Leviathan
Go in "BFBuilder\Assets\Side". Copy the folder of the side you want to import. (In your case, you must copy "IMP") Then, paste it in your Mod's "Sides" folder. ("[modid]\Sides")

where is the mission.lua?

*.LUA files can be found there : "
[modid]\Common\Scripts\[modid]". They can be edited with any text editor...
PS : What do you think about my new avatar ?

I likie...
uh... how do you edit the munge.bat and clean. bat files?
Posted: Mon Jun 20, 2005 10:41 am
by Leviathan
They're text files with a modified extension. (*.BAT) Consequently, you can edit them using a text editor... But be sure they're no longer in "read-only" mode before doing that...

Leviathan....are you aware that there is a newer version of BFBuilder that's been out since March? It creates side folders for you (I've told you before that the tutorial link you keep giving people is from last December and is out of date), and you can edit your mission lua from BFBuilder rather than looking for it in the folder list.

where do you get it?

I know that... And I thank you again for your help... But I prefer make all changes I need manually, without using any semi-automatic process, because I like this manner to mod...

For step 2, how exactly do I import files? Sorry, I'm used to the easy modding like with HaloPC

.
And if I fugure that out, I definately will consider step eight.

if your using BFBuilder Pro, there is a Sides selection up near 'edit' and 'file.'
clicking that brings down a dropdown menu.
and at the bottom of said drop down there is a choice...
"Import Retail Side"
click that and then click IMP.... it will think for a couple seconds and then say DONE.
Then open up the actual folders of your project and edit the newly created IMP folder as you like.
As long as you leave the infantry's names alone and keep the files named the same, just with edits, then no LUA changes are needed cause the LUAs draw by filename. I have to edit LUAs for ARC because I make completely new odfs with new names. If you want to play with the retail maps with your mod you need to keep all file names exact as the built in LUA is hard to edit and draws from the retail file names.
Save you a lot of trouble
