Personally, the books were ok. I read them to get brownie points from the girls, and I definitely got brownie points. My friends hated me for it and make fun of me endlessly, but whatever. I dont care if the guys like me. Ya know what I mean?

QFT. Sorry. Couldn't resist.
But yeah, in my opinion Van Helsing is so much better. Not that I've ever seen Twilight, but I heard that it had "good" vampires in, so it can't be good. :?

You know, I'm actually pretty curious as to what makes the book so 'great'. So far I haven't ever heard a reason more in-depth than "Edward is sooooo hot!", while I've heard some pretty good arguments against it.

As I see it, its a money trap.

Think, when you make kid's movies/shows such as Mickey Mouse, Shrek, Toy Story, among others, who is the target audience? Kids. Little kids that would go to the end of the world to buy merchandise from that movie/show (well, the die-hard fans, anyway). That means the producers of the movie contract toy makers to create the merchandise, and the money brought in from the movie tickets, merchandising, etc, funnels into the producers', actors', toymakers', and other crews' hands.

Now the same idea can be applied to different target audiences: if you have a large fan group, then they will pay for the things related to the movie/show.

I was first informed of Twilight when my friend told me that the movie had completely sold out two days after opening. Whatever they were attracted to - the movie itself, the idea of sparkly vampires, Edward Cullen, etc. - Twilight got a huge, die-hard fan group.

Now I'm seeing at least two TV channels wanting to introduce the vampire theme in their own shows :x (WPIX's "Vampire Diaries" and some other one I can't remember).

And now I can't stand that fan group. Plus the idea of good vampires v. bad vampires is just ludicrous, IMO.

I don't have any preferences one way or another (because frankly this romance-novel "lite" isn't something I'm interested in), but I do want to say that on a Star Wars-based fan board, it is a touch hypocritical to dismiss a genre or series simply because of a few fans. I am sure that not everyone who likes a series is a tweenybopper sparkling wannabe vampire mistress, just like every Star Wars fan isn't a foaming-at-the-mouth, broomstick-swinging, zit-faced male.

Those of us who ARE foaming-at-the-mouth, broomstick-swinging, zit-faced males greatly resent that remark.

Pass. I dunno, I usually give novel series-turned movie series a try, but I have zero desire to do so with this one. It just seems like a soap-opera meets a vampire movie.

Thankfully, it's no hit here. Luckily, people in general including girls are somewhat more down to earth here.

Personally I don't know anything about it but what I've heard (sparkling vampires and such) sounds kinda... uhm... Oh well.

OK, question... Edward_Cullen, why do you like Twilight so much...

Is it because of the incredibly deep plot? The intriguing characters? The amazing action scenes?

Oh yeah, and one more thing... [/sarcasm ends here]

Gangster, there's really no reason to sarcastically make fun of them for their choice of books, especially when you've already said...
I know nothing about the movie or books
And are therefore simply piggybacking of of what everyone else has said and what you've heard from other people who hate the books.

I thought they were alright, at least Twilight itself, not the consecutive books (I didn't read the fourth book, actually, as the really aren't very well written, in my opinion). The characters are rather two-dimensional and weak, but I can understand how it appeals to so many teenage girls, as Bella is the essence of a teenage girl, lacking in confidence and self-worth, who's swept up by the man of her dreams and lives happily ever after.

I'm going to make a generalization here about what I think is the number one reason why these books are all so popular, and if one of you can give me an example refuting this statement, I'll take it back. But I think it's because all of us have a desire to be happy, to have that perfect "ending." With pre-teen and teenage girls (but everyone, really), I think that happiness is often seen to come after they find "true love." Also, many teens are insecure, so being insecure, and then all the sudden having the knight in shining armour come along and sweep them off of their feet is definitely going to appeal to a great number of people, many of them female.

That's the same with me. I'm always willing to give things a try, yet, like you, I haven't had the desire to do so with this.

Yeah, I was a little out of place there, but I should have mentioned that what I do know from piggybacking other people is from several people, all with the same opinion, all of whom share my opinions with other movies we've both seen, so I feel I would probably agree with them.
And yes, I do agree that tween/teen girls would like it for that reason, I just don't see how it would have the same appeal for a guy. :?

As I've seen, when something's popularity goes up, the quality usually goes down (Like how Harry Potter went from "Yay! I'm a wizard!" to the camping trip where eveyone died)

Though I don't think Twilight had the quality to begin with. (i.e: Sparkly stalker vampires and werewolf 'imprinting'. I rest my case)

yes they do, infact when i saw hp6 there were 3 or so right behind us constantly talking about the next scene, and kind-of ruining the movie by doing so. (even though i've read the book before)
i pass as well, i don't know anything about them and am mostly annoyed about overly obsessed people but otherwise could care less about the whole series. (i think this is going to turn into flaming pretty soon)
