Creating a Customized Sky [Solved]

Hi all.
So I was wondering how I might go about customizing a sky?
i tried simply taking a tga file and replacing the current sky's tga file but when I munged an error came up saying that it wasn't double layered or something?
I looked through the FAQ and I didn't find a tutorial relating to getting a custom tga to work for the sky.
