No point in using jpeg textures if it's planned to be a battlefront prop.

ok, but what kind of texture do I use, and I'm not necesarily going to put it in battlefront. I just want it just 'cuz. Turret (untextured):

TGA is a really good format, most games use it.

okay, that's what I thought, but my texture won't get on to the thing. THAT's the problem.

I intended it to be a rocket launcher of some sort. I know it's untextured, and it probably never will be 'cuz i don't quite understand Lord Bandu's Texturing tut.
Texturing in XSI 6:

1. Go to the modtools 'screen' (so not XSI default: just modtools)
2. Select your object
3. Select 'Texture'> Unique UV's
4. Close the popup
5. Click Texture>Image
6. Click new>new from file
7. Select your texture.

I'm at school atm, could be a little different but this is it; very simple!
I did that, but now I can't get my texture onto the image.
EDIT: My texture's a bitmap. Is that the problem?
EDIT:Wait, no, I'm trying a jpg on my TV model (an I'm-bored model),so do you have to use certain types of pictures for it? or do you need to click something in the image window?
Are you forgetting to change the view (where it says "shaded") to "textured" or "textured decal" ?

Okay I have given up on flashlights, they are too small and piddley so instead I made animated searchlights :P

They are much bigger, work a bit better and add to the ambiance of a map. There are three types two look skyward, a rotating and a sweep. And one roof mount that does a 180 degree sweep.

and of course a movie

That looks really nice, FragMe. Lot better than those piddly handheld jobbers.
