ok after playing a few maps here is my feedback (i know this is a beta version) the main thing is add localization i had no idea what maps were what there were about 12 maps with no name or description and units where hard to i dentifie due to the combonation of unlocalized units and random models.I found some of the units on the imp side to be quite simalar in wepons. I really like the new sounds

.I was kinda dissapointed by the fact that there where no modes other than conquest and no space maps or modes.I really like the noghire, female zabrak, twi lek jedi, pilot luke, white star killer models.which swamp trooper model is used here is it the one ported by dev or the kinetosimpetus one? Another minor thing that kinda bugged me is the line up of the units what i mean by this is that they are not organized by how many points they cost.i really like the new rocket trals. Also which jetpack effect do you use?all in all i like it nice job for a beta

I was bored so I downloaded this and I decided to post my thoughts on it. (being a file reviewer and all that)
The amount of work that must have gone into this is impressive, no doubt. I feel, however, that in its current state the mod is not really that enjoyable to play. There are some elements of the gameplay that I don't really like, such as the fact that many of the guns overheat very easily and have almost no accuracy. It feels a bit like you're trying to create a more 'realistic' game, but in this case it serves only to be annoying and not really that much fun. Battlefront is by nature an unrealistic game- this is done so that it's more entertaining to play without getting shot by lasers and dying every time. If it was like it was in the movies, it would be a lot harder to have fun when one shot kills you.
The mod is very visually busy. It's extremely hard to tell what everything is, and I made more teamkills in one round of this mod than in my entire time playing BF2 (slight hyperbole). This is partially due to the horrible accuracy of the guns and partially due to the fact that every unit looks different. While this might be good to show off your skinning prowess or whatever, it doesn't really work here in a unified setting. When you're looking at a unit from a distance away, you generally don't look at your crosshairs to see what color it turns (especially if they're in a group or far away). You say "is this unit the same color as my team?" and if the answer is yes, you don't fire. This mod doesn't work that way- everything is different and unique and a beautiful little snowflake. Some uniformity is definitely needed amongst the sides if only for the purpose of not killing people on your team. Also, there are way too many impact effects. It seems that no matter what you shoot, there's an impact effect. I've actually found it quite distracting to watch and personally would prefer if they were toned down a bit. It's not really needed, and it seems that most mods with high acclaim have little to no blaster effects.
That's not to say that the sides don't look good- the models are very high quality and while some of the skins are... ehh... in general every individual unit looks good. The same can be said for the weapons and animations. The lasers are nice too.
Overall, I'd say this mod is fairly typical of the general trend in video games these days. Everybody is a lot more concerned with how things
look than how things
play. While the trend has made things look a lot better, gameplay is not something that should be sacrificed. Games that look really good and are really fun to play are few and far between. And in this mod, the gameplay has definitely taken a hit in favor of appearance.
So, in conclusion, I'd rate this mod about a 6.5 out of 10.
Just my opinion, of course... take it as you will.

Sorry, that's partially my fault, like half the skins in there are mine (major hyperbole).
This is where I disagree though.
I have to say, as a skinner, my goal is to take something made by pandemic; something that looks like it was just quickly thrown together, and replace it with a more visually appealing texture. You'll see this in many of the weapons textures I made, as well as my main export skin of P.E., the EVO Trooper.
While I do agree that gameplay is more important than visuals, I must say that gameplay in the fps series is nothing without visuals. If you took Modern Warfare II and gave it the visuals of Battlefront, sure, it would still look reasonable, but you wouldn't get the same realistic looking feel that MWII has.
Just my two cents.

Ok, I have to be slightly immature here. MW2, realistic feeling, lol. It looks pretty but even some of the visuals are not realistic (Intervention as a few problems, US Army/Marines do not use that style M4). There are also pro-level skill PC players that turn down settings for a FPS boost or to cut down on distracting effects.
Seriously, game play should always come before graphics. That's why Game Dev companies use closed Alphas. To test new features to see if they make or break the game. All the props, characters and other stuff tend to be bland placeholders until the assets to replace them are finished. As they find stuff that makes and breaks the game they add and drop it as needed. Visual stuff is only added when done and is under purview of its associated Art Director that decides the general look and style of the game. There is a reason why Indie games and Moldy Oldies are still played. They look good for their age/devBudget and they play well, and I guarantee you the dev focused on gameplay first.

Which I agree with. I'm not saying that a game should look like complete and total crap and yet have good gameplay. A balance is what is required for true quality and critical acclaim. Case in point- Crysis. Good graphics, of course. Good gameplay? I'd say... not really. Compare that to a game like... Mass Effect 2. Good graphics? Absolutely. Good gameplay? Absolutely again. Which game is regarded to be better? Mass Effect. While this comparison has its flaws, it serves well enough to prove my point.
And don't feel that I'm looking down on your or anyone else's skins/models/textures- by no means am I doing that. They are quite good. My complaints lie with the manner in which they are used that, in my mind, sacrifices a couple essential gameplay elements in favor of prettiness. Visually appealing is great. Like, for example, I like the helmetless trooper. Whoever did that did a good job. What I don't particularly like about it is how it was placed on a side that does not use the same coloration, as it throws me off.
And I agree with VF here.

Well, the weapon loadout can be overcomplicated and redundant sometimes.
Take the Stormtrooper Commander for example, he has four secondary weapons (so one is a buff, not a weapon, okay I will concede to that, but it still occupies a weapon slot) and most of them are redundant. I realize they have different statistics, but in the practical sense they are the same, you see, it's not like each of these explosives has a distinct effect (such as specifically damaging droids) or functionality (such as functioning as a remote controlled explosive), no, when it comes down to it they simply blow stuff up. The grenade/missile/whatever launcher alone could fill that role; if you want to give the Commander grenades, just revert his grenade launcher back to how it worked in the stock game: if you simply press the button, things will go boom; if you hold the button and then let it go, voilĂ - a grenade. It's much more straightforward.
As for "overcomplicated", well, as I said before, some units have too many secondary weapons and that can be difficult to manage during combat, considering that, in Battlefront II, all you do is press a single button repeatedly until the thing you need shows up on the HUD. The weapons management system for this game lacks precision, normally this is not a problem since the stock classes don't carry more than two primary and two secondary weapons anyway, but it can be a troubling issue in Pax Empiracae.
Going along with my previous critique, consider tinkering around with the secondary weapons, remove redundant stuff, try moving some things from the secondary slot to the primary (why is the fusion cutter in a secondary slot anyway?) and so on.
Just one last thing: in some instances, the Imperial classes lack a sense of identity; since there is no localization (at least for me) I have to guess what does what, and I can't quite differentiate the "Stormtrooper officer" classes from a mere glance - I don't know which class to pick when I want mines or whatever - they are kind of hit and miss. You never know what they are carrying in their backpacks or what are their roles in the battlefield.
Though this particular criticism may come from my preference of intuitive visuals, I like to look at things and immediately know what I'm supposed to do with them; it's more of a personal thing than anything else, you shouldn't let it bother you.
Still, I found it an enjoyable mod, DRK did a commendable job with the skins and the concept is neat, I'll hold the final word on it until the actual release comes out.
