we have many survival horror games, or horror shooters, or games that are just scary, even if they are not supposed to be and im sure everyone has played such games so here is my top 3:

1) Penumbra: i got a demo (or was it a beta) and played it for a while and i was so impressed by the atmosphere that i decided not to touch the full version for the sake of my health

2) Thief 3: the game isnt scary, but the former orphanage level is just awesome,
just imagine, you are in an abandoned house and you hear someone walking around, children laughing and screams, then you meet former inhabitants of the house who have survived (zombies from resident evil are much funnier trust me), and then you go into the past with people walking around you like shadows and you learn about what happened here, then you understand how scary this place is

3) cant decide between DOOM 3 (always the same) and STALKER

FEAR wasnt that scary (but the story of alma was pretty sad), Resident Evil 4 wasnt scary too (dang no zombies, no dark corners WTF?!, even the css zombie mod is scarier)

never played alone in the dark or previous resident evil games

hmm, Resident Evil 4 is just creepy (I played a demo of it at a local videogame store and now I want it sooooooo bad).

I dunno, I haven't really played that many scary games.. Mabye in Combat Arms when a godmodder flies past my head, yes, that freaks the [Diet Dr. Pepper] outta me.

I've never played any "scary" games but if I would have to choose World of Warcraft would have to be.

For me the scariest Game was Condemned 2.
I rare play such Games nor do i watch such Movies very likely (like SAW or Hostel) but this Game shocked me really.

Although The Darkness.You have to play there ,inside of of burning Orphanage.I wont tell any Story Spoilers but the whole Game have a scary Touch and you need to have some good Nerves,too.

Painkiller wasn't so much scary as creepy, especially the asylum and *shudder* Opera house. Doom 3 was actaully pretty scary.

ive never played any lol. but my friend is scared like crazy from dead space.

Heck, I remember the only scary game Ive ever played. I was like in 3rd grade or something and it scared the living @#!$ out of me. I cant remember what its called, unfortunately, but I think the game was about: you're a guy on a ship or station in space, and when you first start the game, you're investigating some mysteries with your female partner in a big room when all of the sudden, a giant monster (I think the game called them Brutes) bursts in through the ceiling, grabs your female partner, and bites her head off then throws her away. After that you're the guy, running down a hall from the monster chasing you, having to press different button combinations to dodge obstacles to keep running to survive. After that more monsters come in, yadda yadda. At that time, I was scared of even just the monsters little spawning caves.

But the thing I remember the most that scared me sooo much, besides the women getting her head bit off, was when some smaller minion drops down from the ceiling right behind me. IT SCARED THE CAPTIONED SODA OUTTA ME.

Might anyone be able to try and guess what this game is called? Because I pretty much only have 3 memories about it. The giant grey monster bursting in and biting a head off and then chasing my friend (he was playing it, it was his game)), the monsters spawning caves. (seriously they freaked me out. when i got near them eerie music would be played and they were like made of skulls and red goo, with a pulsing flap in the middle i think)
I was such a chicken in 3rd grade.

I haven't played any scary games in awhile, but I do remember playing the LOZ: OT when I was seven or six. Man, I had a lot of nightmares after encountering them redeads...but when I bought the LOZ: OT on my wii a year ago, I had fun beating the death out of them. Aaaaa, stupid redeads and their feeble atempts to kill me now...

Oh my...Not the ReDeads...

I thought that Half-Life 2 Ravenholm was pretty scary at first, but now I could breeze through it on Hard at 12:00 midnight and not be scared at ball!

Heh, I too used to be terrified of Zelda games (my two worst fears in those games were the shadow temple and the Skulltulas )-

HL2. Dunno why but I always feel/felt like there was something about to poke my eyes out. Even in the lame level where you skip around in a diseased canal on an air boat. Only game that ever felt alive.

You will not be sane after playing it, trust me. They had to put more than half of those horrors in a landfill because they couldn't sell them.

I'm gonna have to agree with guru and Fingerfood. Half-Life 2 is the creepiest game I've played yet. It always freaks me out when something jumps out at you and they're either really close and you feel you have no control or can't shoot them instantly, or when they make creepy sounds and run at you. Those fast zombies and the legless zombies always give me the heebie jeebies.

Another game that freaked me out when I was younger, now it just makes me laugh, is Chex Quest. Awesome game!

then you have have to play doom 3, its much darker than HL2 and you cant use flashlight and weapons at once (but you can knock with your flashlight on some zombie's head ), or penumbra, where you ave no weapons at all

belive after such games HL2 will look like a funny fantasy story for children

It's not really scary, but more of an uneasiness. Even when replaying it, you have NO idea what you might find. Plus, realistic graphics = much more realistic scary things.

I agree with guru. The Canals are one of the scariest parts of the game. Ravenholm is just too much and eventually you get used to it. In fact on the first play through in the graveyard, I was laughing my head off. Lots of zombies + one single sawblade = lots of cool 'effects'...

Mod for HL2... Nightmare House, get it.

Call me a coward.. But, Dead Space. I tried it. Nuff said.

EDIT: Oh. Ooohhhh... You mean FEAR scary, not just BAD scary. Okay then... Halo 3. Just the flood... Wow. I scare easy, so no making fun of me for that. I haven't played any other slightly scary games.
